What is a fintech tester?

A Fintech Tester is a quality assurance professional who specializes in testing financial technology applications and systems. Their main responsibility is to ensure that fintech products—such as banking apps, payment platforms, and trading software—function correctly, securely, and meet regulatory standards. Fintech Testers design and execute test cases, identify bugs or vulnerabilities, and work closely with developers to resolve issues. They may also test for compliance with financial regulations and data security requirements. This role is crucial in maintaining the trust and reliability of financial technology services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fintech tester?

To thrive as a Fintech Tester, you need a solid background in software testing methodologies, financial domain knowledge, and often a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with test automation tools (like Selenium or JUnit), bug tracking systems, and secure API testing platforms is typically required, along with relevant certifications such as ISTQB. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for identifying issues and collaborating with development and business teams. These competencies ensure reliable, secure, and compliant financial software that meets industry standards and user expectations.

What unique challenges might I face as a fintech tester compared to other software testing roles?

As a Fintech Tester, you'll encounter unique challenges such as ensuring compliance with strict financial regulations, validating complex transaction workflows, and handling sensitive customer data securely. The fast-paced nature of fintech innovation means you'll need to adapt quickly to new technologies and evolving security standards. Collaboration with developers, business analysts, and compliance teams is frequent, as you'll be responsible for verifying not just functionality, but also data integrity and regulatory adherence in financial products.

Banking is changing - and compliance is changing with it.

At MRV Connect, we combine the strength and experience of a relationship-driven community bank with the evolving world of fintech, digital banking, payments, and Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS).  As our Fintech Compliance Specialist, you'll help ensure our fintech partnerships and digital banking programs grow responsibly and operate within regulatory expectations. You'll monitor programs, identify potential risks, work directly with fintech partners, research evolving regulations, and help make sure issues are resolved - not just identified.  This is a great opportunity for someone who is analytical, detail-oriented, curious, and comfortable asking questions. If you like digging into the details, figuring out why something happened, and finding solutions in an environment that continues to evolve, you may be a great fit.

What You'll Do
  • Monitor fintech programs, digital banking services, and BaaS activities for compliance with banking regulations and internal policies.
  • Identify and assess potential compliance and regulatory risks and communicate findings to the appropriate teams.
  • Work directly with fintech partners to address questions, coordinate information, and support effective compliance oversight.
  • Research and track regulatory developments affecting fintech, payments, digital onboarding, and consumer protection.
  • Assist with developing and executing compliance testing and monitoring for fintech products and services.
  • Investigate compliance concerns, help identify solutions, and support remediation when gaps or process issues are identified.
  • Conduct follow-up testing to make sure corrective actions are effective and lasting.
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation, including testing results, regulatory reports, and partner oversight records.
  • Support internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and inquiries involving fintech activities.
  • Prepare compliance reports, metrics, and summaries for leadership, risk committees, and regulatory reviews.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Legal Studies, Criminal Justice, or a related field - or equivalent experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify risk and dig into the details.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to work directly with internal teams and external fintech partners.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory guidance and translate requirements into practical action.
  • Excellent organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in an evolving, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in financial services compliance, payments, or fintech preferred.
  • Knowledge of banking and payments regulations preferred.
  • A growth mindset and willingness to continuously learn as fintech and regulatory expectations evolve.
