What is fine dining?

Fine dining refers to a high-end restaurant experience characterized by exceptional service, elegant ambiance, and gourmet cuisine. These establishments often have a formal dress code, meticulously crafted menus, and attention to detail in both food presentation and service. Fine dining restaurants typically employ highly trained chefs and staff to provide a memorable, luxurious experience for guests. The focus is on quality ingredients, sophisticated techniques, and creating a unique, upscale atmosphere.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in fine dining service, and why are they important?

To thrive in fine dining service, you need extensive knowledge of food and beverage, formal serving techniques, and often prior experience in upscale restaurants. Familiarity with reservation management systems, POS software, and wine pairing certifications like WSET are typically valuable. Exceptional attention to detail, poise under pressure, and outstanding interpersonal skills help create a memorable guest experience. These skills ensure seamless, high-quality service and guest satisfaction, which are vital for the reputation and success of fine dining establishments.

What are some common challenges faced by staff in a fine dining restaurant, and how are they typically addressed?

Staff in fine dining restaurants often encounter challenges such as meeting high guest expectations, maintaining impeccable service standards, and managing complex menus or wine pairings. These challenges are typically addressed through rigorous training, close teamwork, and strong communication between front-of-house and kitchen staff. Additionally, fine dining establishments often implement regular briefings and ongoing professional development to ensure everyone remains knowledgeable and attentive to details, fostering a supportive work environment that values precision and hospitality.

Food Runner

Years of Experience: 1 Year (Fine dining preferred, but your attitude and passion matter most)

Job Details
Helmed by Chef Brian Limoges, Enclos has just received a Three-Star Michelin rating within the first 18 months of opening, as well as the prestigious Green Star for our sustainability efforts. Enclos offers an intimate, nightly Chef's tasting menu, Wednesday through Saturday. In partnership with Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyard and Winery, our wine program highlights estate wines alongside notable producers from California and abroad.

We believe that exceptional service comes from a place of warmth, collaboration, and genuine care. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a dedicated Food Runner to join our close-knit family and help us craft unforgettable experiences for our guests.

Position Qualifications & Summary

  • The Ideal Candidate: You are passionate about the art of hospitality, highly motivated, and possess a keen eye for detail. While we prefer two or more years of experience in a fine dining environment, a positive attitude, a desire to learn, and a strong work ethic are just as vital to our team.
  • The Role: As a fine dining Food Runner, you are the crucial bridge between our kitchen and the dining room. You support a seamless and elevated dining experience by efficiently delivering beautifully crafted dishes, maintaining impeccable presentation standards, and coordinating closely with both the culinary and service teams. Deep knowledge of each course and our local purveyors.
  • Responsibilities: You will assist with the daily setup and breakdown of the kitchen and dining room, gracefully run food to tables, and serve as an ambassador for the ethos of Enclos. This includes mastering the details of every dish to confidently answer guest questions and ensuring the dining room flows effortlessly.

Required Skills

  • Attention to Detail: An eye for pristine presentation and subtle table adjustments.
  • Teamwork: A collaborative spirit that thrives in a supportive, team-first environment.
  • Communication Skills: Clear, respectful, and articulate interaction with guests, chefs, and service staff.
  • Time Management: The ability to prioritize tasks gracefully in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer Service Orientation: A warm, welcoming demeanor centered on genuine guest care.
  • Adaptability & Problem Solving: A calm, flexible approach to handling the dynamic needs of a nightly service.
  • Grace Under Pressure: The ability to stay focused and composed during peak dining hours.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: $25.00 - $30.00 hourly, plus tips.
  • Schedule: Dinner service only, Wednesday through Saturday (enjoy your Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays off!).
  • Benefits: Competitive compensation packages including comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance, accrued vacation time, and a 401(k).
