Job description

We are seeking an ambitious, entrepreneurial, and results-driven Agent Aspirant to join our agency team. This position is designed for a high-performing professional who wants to build a career in insurance and financial services while developing the sales, leadership, business development, and operational skills necessary to pursue future agency ownership.

The Agent Aspirant will work directly with the Agent and agency leadership to learn all aspects of running a successful insurance agency. This includes new customer acquisition, relationship management, insurance and financial services conversations, team development, marketing, sales management, and agency operations.

This is not simply a sales position. It is a development opportunity for someone who ultimately wants to lead a team, build a business, and take ownership of their professional and financial growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sales & Business Development

  • Generate new business through outbound prospecting, referrals, lead follow-up, networking, and relationship development.
  • Conduct needs-based conversations to identify customers' insurance and financial protection needs.
  • Develop and present appropriate insurance solutions based on customer needs and eligibility.
  • Identify opportunities across auto, homeowners, renters, life, health, and other available insurance and financial products.
  • Consistently achieve established activity, sales, and production goals.
  • Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline.
  • Develop referral relationships and identify opportunities to expand the agency's presence in the community.
  • Follow up consistently with prospects and existing customers to deepen relationships and uncover additional needs.

Customer Relationship Development

  • Build long-term relationships with customers through professional, needs-focused conversations.
  • Conduct insurance and protection reviews to identify potential coverage gaps.
  • Educate customers about available insurance products and protection strategies.
  • Provide a professional and consistent customer experience.
  • Work collaboratively with the agency team to resolve customer needs and maintain strong relationships.

Leadership Development

  • The Agent Aspirant will receive increasing exposure to agency leadership responsibilities, including:
  • Participating in team meetings and sales coaching.
  • Learning how to establish and manage team production goals.
  • Helping motivate and support team members.
  • Participating in sales role-playing and skill development.
  • Learning how to coach team members on prospecting, sales conversations, and follow-up.
  • Developing effective communication, accountability, and leadership skills.
  • Learning how to evaluate individual and team performance.
  • Assisting with onboarding and development of new team members as appropriate.

Agency Operations & Business Management

  • The Agent Aspirant will learn the business side of operating an insurance agency, including:
  • Agency production and performance metrics.
  • Lead generation and marketing strategies.
  • Customer acquisition and retention.
  • Sales pipeline management.
  • Staffing and team development.
  • Business planning and goal setting.
  • Office workflow and operational processes.
  • Managing expenses and understanding agency economics.
  • Creating systems that support consistent agency growth.

Performance Expectations

This is a goal-oriented and performance-driven position. The Agent Aspirant will be expected to demonstrate consistent results in areas such as:

  • Outbound prospecting activity
  • Appointments scheduled and completed
  • New customer acquisition
  • Insurance production
  • Life and financial services conversations
  • Cross-selling and household penetration
  • Referral generation
  • Pipeline development and follow-up
  • Customer retention
  • Personal and team development

Performance will be reviewed regularly, and coaching will be provided to help the Agent Aspirant continue progressing toward greater responsibility.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate:

  • Has an entrepreneurial mindset and a desire to eventually operate a business.
  • Is highly motivated by achievement, growth, leadership, and income potential.
  • Demonstrates strong sales and relationship-building skills.
  • Is comfortable prospecting and developing new business.
  • Is competitive, disciplined, and accountable.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is coachable and actively seeks feedback.
  • Can manage multiple priorities and follow through on commitments.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Has the ability and desire to develop and lead others.
  • Is willing to take ownership of results rather than waiting for opportunities to come to them.
  • Previous experience in sales, insurance, financial services, business development, management, or entrepreneurship is preferred.

Licensing & Professional Development

The Agent Aspirant will be expected to obtain and maintain all insurance licenses required for the position, which may include:

  • Property & Casualty
  • Life & Health

Additional professional development, training, and qualifications may be required as the candidate progresses toward future agency opportunities.

Compensation

The position offers base compensation plus commission and performance-based bonus opportunities.

Compensation is structured to reward:

  • New business production
  • Consistent sales performance
  • Life and financial services production
  • Customer acquisition
  • Achievement of agency goals
  • Overall contribution to agency growth

Specific compensation, commission, bonus opportunities, and performance expectations will be discussed during the interview and onboarding process.

Development Path

The Agent Aspirant position is intended to provide progressive development in four key areas:

Phase 1 – Master the Sales Process

Develop strong prospecting, needs discovery, quoting, presentation, closing, and follow-up skills while demonstrating consistent personal production.

Phase 2 – Master Customer Development

Learn how to build deeper customer relationships, conduct comprehensive insurance reviews, identify protection gaps, generate referrals, and develop a strong book of relationships.

Phase 3 – Develop Leadership Skills

Begin assisting with team development, coaching, accountability, sales meetings, onboarding, and performance management.

Phase 4 – Learn to Run the Business

Develop an understanding of recruiting, staffing, marketing, budgeting, business planning, operational management, team leadership, and agency growth strategies.

The objective is to develop a well-rounded insurance professional who understands not only how to sell, but also how to lead people and operate a successful business.

Future Agency Opportunity

The Agent Aspirant position can provide valuable preparation for individuals interested in pursuing future independent contractor agent opportunities.

Participation in or successful completion of this role does not guarantee selection for, appointment to, or ownership of an agency. Any future opportunity is subject to the applicable company's selection criteria, qualification requirements, approval process, and availability of opportunities.

Who Will Succeed in This Role?

This opportunity is best suited for someone who thinks like a future business owner.

You should be prepared to:

  • Set ambitious goals.
  • Prospect consistently.
  • Be accountable for your results.
  • Accept coaching and implement feedback.
  • Learn from setbacks.
  • Develop other people.
  • Make decisions based on business results.
  • Continuously improve your sales and leadership abilities.
  • Take initiative without needing constant direction.

The successful Agent Aspirant will approach each day with the mindset that the skills, habits, relationships, and results developed today are preparation for leading a business tomorrow.
