Job description

The Financial Controller is responsible for providing strong financial leadership and oversight for our managed association clients. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP, and robust internal controls while managing and mentoring a finance team of financial professionals. The Controller plays a critical role in safeguarding client funds, supporting Boards of Directors, and maintaining transparency, accuracy, and fiscal integrity across all client accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee full-cycle accounting for multiple association clients, including HOAs and COAs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with GAAP, governing documents, and applicable Florida statutes.
  • Review and approve monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, budget comparisons, reserve reports, and bank reconciliations.
  • Serve as an additional financial resource to Community Association Managers (CAMs), Boards of Directors, and client representatives.
  • Support your team with annual audits, reviews, and tax return preparation by coordinating with external CPAs and auditors.
  • Monitor the Financial Reporting Managers review of client cash flow, investment accounts, reserve balances, and financial risk exposure.
  • Ensure timely and accurate assessment billing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable for all clients.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals, including accountants, analysts, and accounts payable/receivable staff.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, workflows, and accountability measures.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and support professional development.
  • Promote a culture of accuracy, professionalism, ethical conduct, and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in accounting
  • CPA certification preferred
  • Expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP compliance
  • Experience coordinating audits
  • Proven leadership abilities
  • Excellent analytical thinking and communication skills

Preferred Credentials

  • CPA or CMA designation
  • Experience working directly with Boards of Directors
