Summary

Assumes responsibility for providing a comprehensive proactive Risk Management Program for Summa Health System. This position ensures accurate loss runs to Finance, actuaries and outside consultants to assure internal resources are available for payment of claims. Administers management of Middlebury Assurance Company, a wholly owned entity of Summa.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1. Formal Education Required:
    • a. Bachelor’s Degree
    • b. J.D. preferred but not required
  • 2. Experience and Training Required:
    • a. Five (5)+ years experience in management of professional and general liability claims
    • b. Five (5)+ years experience with direct responsibility for Risk Management Program
    • c. Three to Five years of progressive supervisory/team leadership experience preferred
  • 3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
    • a. Working knowledge of risk management program, State and Federal laws, regulations and guidelines
    • b. Knowledge of civil court process
    • c. Knowledge of insurance policies and lines of coverage
    • d. Works cooperatively with management in advising of litigation strategies
    • e. Accountable for behaviors consistent with Summa’s mission and values
    • f. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with patients/customers with the understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
  • 4. Level of Physical Demands:
    • a. Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
