Your Opportunity

Capital Power is seeking a Senior Lead, Trade Operations to join our Supply & Trading team. In this critical Front Office role, you will ensure seamless workflows and integrity, accuracy of daily trading operations. Embedded with the Trading desks this role has extensive interaction with traders, originators, ETRM systems, Credit, Risk, Compliance and Finance professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a primary point of accountability for Front Office-driven initiatives and priorities
  • Lead and Represent Trading Desk objectives in cross-functional forums and scrums involving Risk, Credit, Legal, Finance, Technology, and Operations
  • Proactively identify delivery risks, dependencies, and capacity constraints impacting Trading objectives
  • Lead new initiatives, product set-up, new counterparty onboarding, and so forth on behalf of the Front Office ensuring all stakeholder needs are met
  • Serve as the Front Office owner accountable for driving approvals, resolving issues, and ensuring commercial objectives are met
  • Develop and maintain business cases, product definitions, risk frameworks, and operational workflows
  • Manage initiatives from concept through implementation and post-go-live review
  • Partner with Risk and Finance to ensure reporting accuracy, transparency, and control
  • Support executive-level and ad-hoc commercial analysis
  • Partner with Credit, Risk and Legal on complex structures, limit requests, and escalations
  • Identify counterparty-related constraints impacting trading strategies

What you will bring to the role:

Education:

  • Post-secondary education related to business, economics, finance, and/or risk management; related experience or education may be considered as an equivalent
  • Professional designation in a related field an asset (e.g., PRM, FRM, ERP, CFA)
  • 5-10+ years of experience in energy or commodity trading operations, analytics, or risk.
  • Strong understanding of trading products, valuation, risk metrics, and lifecycle processes.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional initiatives with minimal oversight.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong project management and organization skills
  • Comfort working in a fast paced, trader-driven environment
  • Professionalism, reliability, and ability to work collaboratively
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills and ability to wiliness to learn to work with databases, SQL, APIs, Python, and work with large data sets.
  • Advanced ETRM system proficiency (preferably Allegro)
  • Data validation for trading, settlement, invoicing, and risk quantification
  • Advanced understanding of markets, commodities and trading concepts
  • Analytical curiosity and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies and exceptions
  • Highly effective communicator capable for developing consensus amongst broad perspectives
