What we need:

The Engineering Controller is a first-level manager who will use their knowledge of industry practices and standards to manage the budgets, forecasting, financial reporting, and strategic planning required for the FNA engineering division. This role serves as a key member of the Engineering and Operations leadership team, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting while providing financial oversight and controls of all engineering and maintenance spend, projects, capital investments and restructuring initiatives. The role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, and Plant Management to ensure costs are properly classified, allocated, tracked, and reported, while driving accountability for engineering spend, performance and capital project execution.

What you'll do:

  • Serves as a member of the engineering management team to maintain the integrity of the financial statements and support engineering management in operational and business decisions.
  • Accumulates, interprets, and evaluates engineering financial performance metrics.
  • Oversees standard financial duties including reporting, month-end close activities, account reconciliations, audits, and annual operating budget preparation.
  • Prepares weekly and monthly financial reports, forecasts, and management presentations.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and internal controls.
  • Provides financial oversight of capital projects, including budget development, spending analysis, forecasting, and project closeout processes.
  • Ensures capital project expenditures are accurately tracked and charged to the appropriate projects, cost centers, and asset categories.
  • Reviews and validates capital versus expense classifications in accordance with company policy and accounting standards.
  • Oversees the allocation of engineering-related costs across capital projects, restructuring initiatives, preventative maintenance activities, and operating expenses to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Partners with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Project Managers to monitor project spending, review project status, and identify budget variances or financial risks.
  • Leads regular capital project review meetings with Engineering and Plant Leadership to evaluate project performance, spending trends, forecasts, and resource utilization.
  • Monitors restructuring expenditures and preventative maintenance spending to ensure proper accounting treatment and financial transparency.
  • Analyzes project overruns, cost trends, and spending variances, providing recommendations and corrective actions as needed.
  • Supports fixed asset management processes, including capitalization of completed projects and retirement of assets when appropriate.
  • Develops and maintains reporting tools, metrics, and dashboards to improve visibility into capital spending and project performance.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve financial controls, cost allocation processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiencies.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 2-4 years of relevant accounting, finance, cost accounting, manufacturing finance, or controllership experience, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 1-3 years of management experience.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, fixed asset accounting, and project spend management preferred.
