Storyteller (San Francisco)

Los Angeles, CA โ€ข On-site

Job description

We're looking for a Storyteller who will help shape the narrative of the company as we build it.

This role is equal parts social media lead and narrative operator. You'll be responsible for running and growing our channels, and, you'll work closely with the founders and team to identify the stories worth telling, develop them into ongoing narratives, and figure out how we tell them over time.

We're building around an identity for a new generation of people earning, building, and creating online. You'll help us bring that story to life while documenting the people behind UGLYCASH and what it actually looks like to build the company.

We want someone who can recognize a story while it's happening and turn it into something people want to follow.

About us

UGLYCASH is built for a generation that earns differently.

The way people work and make money has fundamentally changed. People build businesses online, freelance across borders, create content, sell products, work remotely, and build careers that traditional financial institutions were never designed to understand or serve.

We believe financial opportunity should evolve with the people creating it.

UGLYCASH exists to build financial services for this new generation of earners — especially those earning online and across borders who have historically had less access to stable currency, credit, and the financial tools they need to grow.

We want to do things differently: to replace fine print with candid transparency and brutal honesty, discrimination with global financial inclusion, and cold, distant financial institutions with a human connection to the people we serve.

Our name is a statement of that difference. We don't build trust because of our name. We build trust through authenticity, honesty, and human connection.

But the mission goes deeper. We believe access to stable currency and financial opportunity is a human right. The internet has opened up entirely new ways for people around the world to earn — now the financial system needs to catch up.

UGLYCASH is being built for the people building their lives and careers on the internet.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage and grow UGLYCASH's cross-platform social channels, including Instagram, TikTok, and X
  • Own and develop the ongoing narrative of UGLYCASH across social
  • Work closely with the founders and team to identify the stories, personalities, moments, and ideas worth turning into content
  • Think beyond individual posts — build recurring storylines, formats, and content arcs that give people a reason to keep following
  • Turn what's happening inside the company — launches, conversations, experiments, wins, failures, events, and everyday moments — into compelling narratives
  • Partner closely with our film creator to decide what should be captured and how those moments become stories
  • Develop and maintain the social content calendar and publishing cadence
  • Stay deeply plugged into internet culture and identify relevant trends, conversations, and formats UGLYCASH can participate in
  • Continuously experiment with how we tell our story, learn what resonates, and evolve the narrative accordingly

Requirements

What we look for in you:

  • Located in the United States and willing to move to San Francisco after hire (relocation support provided)
  • You're a strong storyteller with an instinct for finding the story people actually care about.
  • You have experience building and growing an audience — ideally across Instagram and a writing-led platform like Substack.
  • You know how to develop clear content pillars and recurring formats that build a recognizable voice.
  • You think in narratives, not just individual posts.
  • You have strong editorial and creative taste and know what feels culturally relevant.
  • You're deeply internet-native and understand how people consume, share, and engage with content online.
  1. You're strategic but hands-on — you can shape the story and make sure it gets executed.

Benefits

  • Compensation: We offer a competitive compensation plan that includes cash & the potential for a token grant
  • Healthcare coverage: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans
  • Nomadic/remote work opportunities: Enjoy the flexibility of working remotely for 2 months a year
  • Paid time off: Our policy includes 3 weeks of vacation, sick days, company holidays, and bonus anniversary days
  • Parental & Bereavement Leave: Paid parental leave for new parents, including maternity, paternity, and adoption leave
