Principal Financial Analyst

As a Principal Financial Analyst on the EPX ("Enterprise Product & Experience") Finance team you will work for a company that invests in ways to tell stories, view trends, and diagnose results in a more compelling and visual nature. You will have the opportunity to partner with business customers on driving strategic business direction that leads to sustainable performance and you will be asked to challenge our current well-managed processes to be more proactive, effective and efficient.

Financial Analysts perform financial data analysis in preparing Profit & Loss or other statements and frequently build reports for higher level associates; provide management and business clients with project statuses; perform reporting and analysis to support presentation and ad-hoc requests. In this role, you will be responsible for financial forecasting, executive reporting and presentation, relationship building, and mentoring junior associates. You will manage P&L performance and provide Technology, Product, and Design Leadership with financial insights to influence strategy and drive to business outcomes. You will support teams that are responsible for some of the most impactful work at Capital One.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the Annual Budget, Monthly Financial Forecast and the Long-Term Financial Plan

  • Develop financial models and analyses to support growth of the business and strategic initiatives

  • Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators including areas of revenue, expenses and capital expenditures

  • Monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variance

  • Analyze complex financial information and reports to support accurate and timely financial recommendations to management for decision making purposes

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual Reporting and Analysis

  • Identify industry trends and insights pertaining to competitor's strategies and/or relative financial performance (e.g. peer benchmarking)

  • Perform ad hoc analysis using data retrievals from internal financial systems and external market databases and package insights into clear and concise presentations

  • Work closely with the business leads to help identify areas and processes for driving efficiencies

  • Implement and work with Business Intelligence Tools and Dashboard reports

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 4 years experience in financial analysis, financial modeling, or a combination

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Master's Degree in Finance

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) license or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license

  • At least 5 years experience in financial analysis, financial modeling, or a combination

  • At least 3 years of experience in strategic analysis & planning

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Financial Analyst


Richmond, VA: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Financial Analyst










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
