Serving as an Adjunct Instructor in Continuing Education at Utah Valley University offers a meaningful opportunity to share expertise with a broad, motivated community of lifelong learners. In this role, instructors design and teach engaging, non-credit courses that translate real-world knowledge into practical learning experiences. With the freedom to develop course materials and a syllabus tailored to the subject, instructors can create relevant, accessible content while maintaining a student-centered approach that supports active participation and learning.

Summary of Responsibilities
The successful individual shall perform some or all of the following duties:
  • Designs and teaches a community education non-credit course.
  • Prepares instructional materials, including handouts and course syllabus.
  • Maintains a student-oriented approach to student learning.
  • Maintains and records student attendance.
  • Provides an open, student-centered, discrimination-free classroom environment.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree in the subject matter or a closely related area; OR 2 years of experience teaching or closely related professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Expert on subject matter with formal or informal teaching experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of the subject matter of the class to be taught.
  • Knowledge of teaching principles for the age group of the course(s) taught.
  • Effective human relations skills and communication techniques.

  • Ability to work effectively with people.

    • Adjunct: waives 100 percent of tuition and general student fees for one course per semester in which there is an active teaching assignment at the university (dependents do not qualify)
