Controller

Service Specialists recruiting agency is seeking an experienced Controller for a well-established company based in Richland, Mississippi. This is a key financial leadership position responsible for leading the accounting team and overseeing the company's core accounting functions. The Controller will work closely with operations leadership, providing accurate financial reporting, insight into project performance, and strategic financial guidance to support business decisions. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, understands project-based financials, and can effectively lead both the day-to-day accounting function and higher-level financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, job costing, and revenue recognition
  • Lead and support the accounting team
  • Manage month-end close and prepare monthly financial reporting
  • Analyze contracts in progress and manage percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Maintain accurate job costing and project financial reporting
  • Ensure financial reporting is consistent with GAAP
  • Monitor cash and available funds and provide regular reporting to management
  • Partner closely with operations leadership and provide strategic financial insight
  • Prepare and oversee sales tax, property tax, and other required business tax filings
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • CPA preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Construction industry experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with job costing, revenue recognition, and percentage-of-completion accounting strongly preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with accounting platforms such as Sage or QuickBooks
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both accounting and operational teams
