Ready to shape the future of science and global health? A global nonprofit that provides trusted biological materials for science and health, ATCC is hiring a Lead Facility Technician to work onsite primarily in Gaithersburg, MD with additional support for our facility in Germantown, MD.

The Lead Facility Technician supports maintenance, repair, installation, and relocation of facility and equipment assets that enable daily laboratory and biorepository operations. This role performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment support across facility systems and laboratory equipment while coordinating with internal teams and external vendors. Seeking a Lead Facility Technician, ideally with hands-on maintenance experience and experience supporting laboratory equipment, scientific operations, or biorepository environments.   • Equipment Maintenance and Support: Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and relocation of laboratory, repository, and facility equipment. Support commonly used scientific equipment including freezers, refrigerators, centrifuges, incubators, and related operational assets.
  • Facility Systems Maintenance: Maintain and repair facility systems including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and other building infrastructure supporting daily operations and temperature-controlled environments.
  • Work Order and Service Coordination: Receive and fulfill work orders and service requests, prioritize repairs, and coordinate maintenance activities with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Troubleshooting and Inspections: Diagnose equipment and facility issues, perform repairs, and conduct routine and special inspections to identify maintenance needs and support operational continuity.
  • Equipment Installation and Workspace Support: Install, assemble, adjust, relocate, and repair office, laboratory, and repository equipment, furnishings, shelving, workstations, and other operational assets using manuals, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Safety, Documentation, and Continuous Improvement: Maintain maintenance records, support facility projects, follow SOPs, promote safety standards, and contribute to efficient facility and equipment operations.

  • Minimum Requirement: HS Diploma and 4 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead facility maintenance activities, coordinate repairs, and apply judgment in a hands-on operational environment.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain equipment and facility systems with minimal supervision.
  • Experience supporting laboratory, scientific, manufacturing, biorepository, or biotechnology operations.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices, work order systems, documentation, and recordkeeping.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate work with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Strong commitment to safety standards and maintaining a clean, compliant work environment.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting laboratory equipment, including freezers, refrigerators, centrifuges,
    incubators, or other scientific instrumentation.
  • Preferred: HVAC and refrigeration knowledge supporting regulated or temperature-controlled environments.

The expected salary range for this position is $85,000 to $90,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
