DESCRIPTION
Financial Controller
Reports To: General Manager
Position Overview
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations of the company. This role requires a strong blend of technical accounting expertise, leadership capability, and analytical problem-solving skills. The Controller manages financial reporting, banking relationships, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll oversight, and general ledger activities while supporting leadership with accurate, timely financial insights. This position plays a critical role in driving operational efficiency, compliance, and team development.
Key Results
The Financial Controller is accountable for achieving the following key results:
  1. Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to accounting department personnel, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
  2. Prepare and maintain accurate financial reporting packages by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing financial information and trends; identify discrepancies and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  3. Execute month-end and year-end accounting responsibilities, including cash flow management, general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and funding activities within established deadlines.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan, direct, and monitor the day-to-day operations of the accounting department
  • Evaluate overall financial performance by analyzing financial data, metrics, and trends
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Partner with the management team to develop, implement, and refine financial policies and procedures
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, investigate discrepancies, and resolve accounting issues
  • Coordinate and manage month-end and year-end close processes
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls
  • Stay current on accounting laws and regulations and implement changes as required
  • Identify opportunities to maximize efficiency through continuous process improvement
  • Supervise accounting staff, providing constructive feedback and establishing performance goals
  • Support employee training, professional development, and advancement
  • Safeguard cash management processes and maintain strict confidentiality

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as a Financial Controller
  • Five (5) or more years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to improve processes and efficiencies
  • Microsoft Fundamentals Certification
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate office equipment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Accounting
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with forecasting and budgeting across multiple divisions or entities
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation
  • Active CPA license
  • Three (3) years of experience in retail inventory operations

Guillory Oil supplies fuels, oils, and lubricants from leading brands to retail, commercial, farmers, government, residential, and a variety of other industries throughout Louisiana. We supply Chevron, Texaco, Valero, Marathon, and unbranded fuels to convenience stores throughout Louisiana. We also offer a full line of lubricants, oils, and greases from Chevron and our own house brands.
