About the Role

Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is seeking a QC Manager to join our team in Prince George, BC.

Reporting to the Quality Control and Assurance Manager, the Regional Quality Control Manager is responsible for the ensuring that Terus Construction, division of Colas Western Canada Inc. consistently delivers high-quality products and projects across British Columbia and the Yukon. Leading a team of Supervisors and Quality Control Technicians, the Regional Quality Control Manager will apply leadership and managerial skills to direct and contribute to profitability while optimizing organizational resources.

Based out of the South or North Regional Office of Terus Construction, the Regional Quality Control Manager provides direction to quality control personnel to support the construction and manufacturing business with an annual revenue of $150+ million. This includes promoting and maintaining quality control processes and procedures for Terus’s construction, asphalt paving, aggregate production, hot mix asphalt, and ready-mix concrete activities.

•    Leadership: Build and develop high performing team(s) and work closely with other activity team(s) for driving & executing business objectives.
•    Optimization: Work with construction and manufacturing teams to optimize mix design to achieve overall efficiency.
•    Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks in the quality control activities of construction and manufacturing business.
•    Quality management system: Drive continuous improvement, minimize defects, and enhance overall product and service quality.

Main Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Provide guidance, direction, and management control for accomplishing HSE goals and objectives in the activity.
  • Ensure a safe work environment by holding project team members accountable to Terus-CWCI health, safety, and environment policies.

Operations Management

  • Track and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality. Use data-driven insights to proactively address quality risks.
  • Maintain the company’s Quality Assurance (QA) manual and responsible for implementing all amendments and revisions to the QA manual.
  • Responsible for quality documentation management with Terus. Ensure the quality documents are enforced in all operations of Terus.
  • Optimize resource allocation for quality control efforts. Balance staffing needs and training costs to achieve efficient quality outcomes.
  • Work with construction and manufacturing teams to improve efficiencies in workmanship, value engineering, mix optimization, and mix specifications.
  • Act as the Supervising Professional for the CCIL.
  • Responsible for calibration and maintenance for all quality control equipment.
  • Review customer technical specifications and provide sales and operational team with necessary product recommendations.
  • Conduct regular safety and quality audits of the quality control process to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Mix Optimization

  • Assist in maximizing raw material usage from various geologies to cut wastage in process.
  • Oversee performance testing of mix designs.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to optimize material mixtures (such as concrete, asphalt, or aggregates).
  • Ensure rigorous quality control checks during material batching and mixing processes and monitoring mechanism for consistency and uniformity of mixes.
  • Tailor mix designs to meet specific project requirements.

 

Financial & Risk Management 

  • Provide insight for overall construction and manufacturing activity profitability.
  • Identify potential quality risks within projects, processes. Evaluate their impact on product quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Prepare contingency plans for quality emergencies, such as material defects, process deviations, or supplier failures.
  • Assist investigations into quality incidents. Apply root cause analysis techniques to identify underlying issues and prevent recurrence.

Project Portfolio Quality Management

  • Prepare and control project quality system management documentation before project commencement.
  • Review qualifications and training requirements for quality inspection personnel.
  • Monitor the disposition of issued nonconformance reports.
  • Track the progress and effectiveness of the project quality management system.
  • Responsible for implementing improvements as directed.

Experience and Knowledge Required for the Role:
  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, materials science, construction management, or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in construction, ready mix, or aggregates sector.
  • Understanding of mix design principles for concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials.
  • Understanding with material testing methods (compression tests, slump tests, gradation analysis, etc.).
  • Knowledge of local, national, and international regulations related to construction materials quality.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies and ensuring compliance.
  • A strong work ethic and team focused approach which is “hands on”.
  • Advanced communication skills (oral, written, and technical).
  • Computer proficiency – Microsoft Office- Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of time.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $95,000- $120,000CAD plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
