What does a financial analyst do?

A Financial Analyst is responsible for analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and making recommendations to help businesses and individuals make informed investment decisions. They evaluate economic trends, study financial statements, and assess the performance of stocks, bonds, and other types of investments. Financial Analysts often work for banks, investment firms, insurance companies, or corporate finance departments, providing insights that support key financial strategies and planning.

How does a financial analyst typically collaborate with other departments within a company?

Financial Analysts frequently work cross-functionally with teams such as accounting, operations, and marketing to gather data, analyze business performance, and support strategic planning. Regular collaboration ensures that financial models and forecasts are based on accurate, up-to-date information from across the organization. Job description

Are you ready to lead financial controllership for one of the largest fulfillment networks in the world? Amazon is seeking a Financial Analyst II to oversee standard controllership work across our entire US inbound operations network—spanning over 100 sites. Unlike traditional financial analyst roles that focus on a handful of locations, this position offers unprecedented scope and impact, giving you the opportunity to shape financial processes, drive cost efficiencies, and influence decision-making at the network level.

In this highly visible role, you'll work directly with senior leaders across the organization, lead monthly financial reviews for all network levels, and drive process improvements that impact cost to serve across the entire fulfillment network. You'll combine deep-dive problem solving with strategic thinking to maintain financial controls, coordinate critical audits, and identify savings opportunities that you'll champion across 100+ sites. If you're looking for a role where your financial expertise can create measurable impact at scale, this is your opportunity.

Key job responsibilities
  • Lead standard controllership processes and financial review cycles for the entire inbound operations network covering over 100 fulfillment sites across the US
  • Coordinate monthly finance review processes for all network levels during month-end closing, provide guidance on key items, and prepare analysis and executive-level documentation for senior leadership reviews
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives by establishing and maintaining standard work, ensuring reporting accuracy through regular audits, and identifying root causes of discrepancies to insist on the highest standards
  • Research technical, operational, and financial details across the network to develop insights, identify cost savings opportunities, and drive network-wide participation through calls to action
  • Process and analyze large datasets from multiple sites to create clear reporting and narratives that influence data-driven decision making, while building and maintaining tools and documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing

A day in the life

During typical workdays, you'll focus on establishing and refining standard work, advancing strategic projects, and implementing continuous process improvements that benefit the entire network. When month-end closing arrives, the pace intensifies as you lead comprehensive financial review processes across all network levels, coordinate central audits for critical accounts, provide guidance on key financial items, and prepare detailed analysis for executive reviews with senior leaders. You'll leverage AI-enabled tools to maximize efficiency in this lean team structure, and collaborate with finance partners across inbound operations when special projects require additional expertise.

About the team

You’ll join a lean, high-performing finance team designed for maximum impact—consisting of one senior finance manager and one Financial Analyst, augmented by AI tools and supported by the broader inbound operations finance community for project work. This structure provides exceptional exposure to senior leadership and involvement in strategic initiatives spanning all US fulfillment centers.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of finance, tax or a related analytical field experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (examples: SQL, MS Access, Essbase, Cognos) and other financial systems (examples: Oracle, SAP, Lawson, JD Edwards)
  • 4+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience
  • CMA, or CPA
  • Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency
