Job description

Financial Analyst - Construction
Location: Nashville, TN | ONSITE
Compensation: $120,000 - $130,000
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire,
Position Summary
A growing steel fabrication company in the construction industry based in Nashville, TN is seeking a Financial Analyst to join their team. Reporting to the Owner and Fractional CFO, this role is built for a construction finance professional who thrives on analyzing the numbers and translating them into smart, actionable decisions for the business. Day-to-day accounting is currently supported through AI-driven processes, and you'll be trained to eventually take ownership of that function as your role grows. Right now, the focus is on you becoming the financial backbone of the operation, working closely with project managers and operations to track costs, analyze margins, and help drive smart decisions.
Responsibilities
  • Perform job costing and project margin analysis, connecting estimating-to-actual data back to project managers and operations teams
  • Track and analyze labor and equipment costs, identifying and clearly communicating variances
  • Build and maintain 60-90 day cash flow forecasts to support operational planning
  • Produce financial reporting that field and project leaders can actually use, going beyond back-office outputs to tell the story behind the numbers
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations and project management as a trusted business partner
  • Support continuous improvement of financial controls, processes, and reporting
  • Learn and eventually take ownership of day-to-day accounting operations, including AP/AR, month-end close, general ledger, compliance, and payroll coordination, currently supported through AI-driven tools, with hands-on training provided
  • Grow into managing WIP and POC accounting, including related journal entries and schedules, as part of your development toward the Controller role
  • Eventually manage the annual audit process and serve as primary liaison to the external CPA firm as you take on more accounting ownership

Required Qualifications
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and communicate it clearly to non-finance stakeholders
  • Construction industry background, with an understanding of WIP and percentage-of-completion concepts a plus
  • High proficiency in Excel
  • Business-partnering mindset with a desire to be useful to operations, not just accurate in a back office
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with project managers and field teams
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable moving quickly in a growing environment
  • Willingness to learn and grow into full accounting ownership over time, with training provided
  • Growth mindset with ambition

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Procore, Viewpoint, or similar construction accounting platforms
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Familiarity with AIA billing and subcontractor management
  • Power BI or other data visualization experience a plus
  • Comfort working alongside AI-driven accounting tools and processes
