Job description

Financial Controller – Restaurant Group
Holmdel, NJ |Salary: Up to $120,000

A growing, independently owned restaurant organization is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee financial reporting, accounting controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis across its expanding operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on financial professional who understands the unique economics of the restaurant industry and can provide ownership and operational leadership with the financial visibility needed to make sound business decisions.

The organization has bookkeeping support in place for transactional accounting, payroll, and journal entries. The Financial Controller will operate at a higher level—ensuring financial accuracy, analyzing results, strengthening controls, and helping leadership understand the numbers behind the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee financial reporting and accounting functions for a growing multi-unit restaurant organization
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, P&Ls, balance sheets, and cash flow reporting
  • Provide ownership and operations leadership with clear analysis of financial performance
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial projections
  • Monitor food cost, beverage cost, labor, prime cost, and other key restaurant KPIs
  • Analyze location-level performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability
  • Review general ledger activity and ensure accurate month-end and year-end closing
  • Establish and maintain effective internal financial controls
  • Oversee cash management, banking relationships, and account reconciliations
  • Partner with operations to improve purchasing, inventory, labor, and cost-control processes
  • Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other accounting functions handled by support staff
  • Coordinate with outside accountants, tax professionals, vendors, and financial partners
  • Develop scalable financial processes and reporting systems to support continued restaurant growth
  • Provide financial analysis for new locations, capital investments, and other growth initiatives
Ideal Candidate
  • Strong accounting and financial management experience, preferably within the restaurant or hospitality industry
  • Experience supporting a multi-unit restaurant organization strongly preferred
  • Thorough understanding of restaurant P&Ls and operational metrics
  • Strong knowledge of food cost, labor cost, prime cost, inventory, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Experience with month-end close, financial statement preparation, balance sheet reconciliations, and cash management
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with accounting and restaurant technology platforms
  • Ability to translate financial information into actionable recommendations for non-financial operators
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and financial accuracy
  • Comfortable working directly with ownership and senior operational leadership
  • Hands-on, proactive approach with the ability to build systems and processes within a growing organization
A CPA is valued but not required. Restaurant industry experience and the ability to understand and influence the operational side of the business are more important than coming from a traditional corporate accounting environment.

This is an opportunity to join a growing restaurant organization where the Financial Controller will have significant visibility and influence. The successful candidate will play an important role in strengthening the company's financial infrastructure while helping leadership make informed decisions as the organization continues to expand.
