Accounting Controller

Cannabis Cultivation Company – Warren, Michigan

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounting Controller to support the CFO and oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of a rapidly growing cannabis cultivation company in Warren, Michigan. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable working with both traditional accounting systems and cannabis-specific compliance platforms.

The Accounting Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing month-end close, ensuring inventory and compliance accuracy, and providing financial insights to support business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Management

Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and general ledger maintenance.

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.

Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, inventory, and balance sheet accounts.

Assist the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.

Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes.

Support external CPA firms, auditors, banks, and regulatory agencies.

Cannabis Compliance & Inventory

Ensure accurate inventory reconciliation between accounting records and METRC.

Assist with compliance reporting and cannabis-specific recordkeeping requirements.

Investigate inventory variances and implement corrective actions.

Systems & Reporting

Maintain and optimize accounting records within QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Generate financial reports, KPI dashboards, and operational reports for management.

Utilize advanced Excel skills for analysis, reporting, and financial modeling.

Manage and reconcile customer transactions through LeafLink.

Assist with implementation and improvement of accounting software and reporting systems.

Qualifications

Required

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Experience with QuickBooks Online.

Experience with METRC and cannabis inventory compliance.

Experience with LeafLink.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred

5+ years of accounting experience.

Previous experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar role.

Cannabis industry accounting experience.

Experience in cultivation, manufacturing, or inventory-intensive businesses.

Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
