QA/QC Inspector


Work Setting

This role will begin in our Athens, GA structural shop for training and then transition to a split schedule between our new stainless steel shop in Commerce, GA and our shop in Anderson, SC.


Job Summary

The QA/QC Inspector is responsible for inspecting and ensuring the quality of fabrication and welds performed by production staff. This role certifies that final products are free of defects and conform to AISC standards and contract documents.

This is an excellent growth opportunity for an experienced Fitter who would like to move into a quality-focused role.


Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Fitter of handrails and stairs
  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints
  • Knowledge of weld testing procedure methods
  • Strong math skills with the ability to read and interpret measurements
  • Knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.6, and AISC codes applicable to steel fabrication preferred
  • Prior quality or inspection experience is a plus
  • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification is a plus
  • NDT Ultrasonic Testing (UT) experience is a plus
  • Ability to work a 6:00am4:30pm schedule, Monday through Saturday, across Athens, GA, Commerce, GA, and Anderson, SC shops

Essential Functions

  • Perform dimensional and visual inspections of shop fabrication, including weld preparation, final welds, and final paint inspections
  • Ensure fabricated materials conform to drawings, shop standards, specifications, and applicable codes
  • Record and maintain in-process and final inspection documentation for quality assurance and production control
  • Identify and help resolve drawing discrepancies in coordination with detailers
  • Coordinate with customer inspectors during inspection phases
  • Communicate defects and quality concerns to shop foremen
  • Assist shop personnel with interpretation of drawings and specifications


Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Day shift schedule, typically 6:00am4:30pm Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays required
  • Overtime hours available
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and safely maneuver around construction equipment and vehicles in an active shop environment
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, fumes or airborne particles, and varying weather conditions
  • Ability to climb temporary or permanent stairs and ladders
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, balance, stoop, and reach regularly
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
