Position Description
Assistant Professor of Practice - Film Production
The School of Theatre, Dance, and Film at Texas State University seeks an Assistant Professor of Practice in Film Production (non-Tenure Track), starting fall 2026. The new hire will join a nationally recognized department with a dynamic faculty dedicated to a collaborative and innovative approach to teaching. The Cinematic Arts program within the vibrant performing arts department focuses on narrative fictional filmmaking and has a rapidly growing multifarious student body and a new dedicated building for film, television, audio, and new media production.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Teaching undergraduate courses in film
• Advising Cinematic Arts students
• Supervising co-curricular student projects
• Collaborating with the Cinematic Arts Area in support of current initiatives and new developments
• Serving the Cinematic Arts Program and the School of Theatre, Dance, and Film through administrative contributions and/or leadership positions
  • Continued creative and/or research output as required by rank

Required Qualifications
  • MFA, PhD, equivalent international terminal degree in film or related field OR minimum of 7 years professional experience in film production or related field.
  • Professional experience in film, television, or new media storytelling.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • Commitment to an ongoing professional career.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 years teaching experience at full-time or equivalent course load.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in at least one of these focus areas: film producing, postproduction, VFX, AI, virtual production, or production design.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate film courses on film producing, cinematography, post-production, or new media.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Demonstrated record of strong collaborative abilities and collegiality.
