Job Description

The Manager of Accounting will play a key role in the general accounting and compliance initiatives for NBC Sports. Ths includes responsibility for the Sports Balance Sheet, Account Reconciliations, and Corporate Deliverables. This position will support the Senior Director of Accounting and work closely with leadership across FP&A, Production, GFO, as well as controllership counterparts across the Media Group.

This position will support the monthly close and the overall accounting processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting. The role will support the (i) standardization of existing processes with the rest of NBCU’s Controllership group, (ii) identification of business process efficiencies, and (iii) implementation of best practices. This position is expected to identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend enhancements that support NBC Sports and Media’s overall close and control structure. The role offers many opportunities for growth within NBCUniversal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries in SAP Promenta in accordance with close timelines.
  • Prepare and review monthly/quarterly account reconciliations accurately and timely with detailed support that is properly documented and independent of the GL.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations on the General Ledger, including SAP maintenance, AOE refreshes, Corporate Edit checks, and ad-hoc reporting for FP&A/Production Finance.
  • Manage account reconciliation tool (Blackline) regarding system access, grouping accounts for efficiency, training offshore team members (Accenture) on preparation process, review required adjustment reports and validate BS/P&L impact, ensure required adjustment entries are posted timely and documented correctly.
  • Coordinate and manage the quarter close deadlines and deliverables, prepare data requests for Corporate Controllership to support internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and assist with Balance Sheet variance commentary, and support the Senior Director in presenting quarterly Balance Sheet summaries to NBC Sports’s CFO and FP&A leadership with firm understanding of balance sheet activity and ending balances.
  • Partner with Program Finance and Tax regarding production tax credit filings; understand monetization timelines to support balance sheet classifications.
  • Participate and collaborate on corporate driven initiatives and process changes across the business, including special projects; significant emphasis on NBCU’s transition to SAP S/4 platform via Project Keystone and Blackline Optimization.
  • Support and manage execution of projects and initiatives to improve the control environment and overall accounting efficiencies.
  • Analyze T&E and PCard spend, resolve audit issues in Concur, provide support to cardholders.
  • Perform ad-hoc reporting and special projects as requested to support business leaders.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial accounting standards
  • 4+ years accounting experience; 2+ years of public accounting experience preferred
  • Prior experience with global ERP systems (such as SAP) preferred
  • Advanced Excel (pivot, v-/x-lookups, Power Query), Word, and PowerPoint skills required
  • Manage one direct report (Senior Accountant)

Desired Characteristics:

  • CPA License preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Comfortable presenting financial details to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in fast-paced environment.
  • Media industry experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of general ledger systems preferred (e.g. SAP, AOE, Blackline).
  • Clear thinker with the ability to problem-solve, focus on quality, attention to detail and adapt to changes.
  • Strong work ethic, willingness to contribute, solutions-oriented mindset, self-motivator.
