What does a film editing intern do?

A Film Editing Intern assists professional editors in assembling raw footage, organizing video files, and preparing sequences for review. They may help with tasks like syncing audio, cutting scenes, adding basic effects, and managing digital assets. The role is designed to provide hands-on experience with industry-standard editing software and workflows, while also supporting the post-production team. Interns often learn about storytelling, pacing, and technical aspects of editing, making it a valuable entry point for a career in film editing.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect as a film editing intern, and how closely will I collaborate with other team members?

You may also handle technical tasks like file management or exporting final edits. Collaboration is a key aspect; you'll often work directly with editors, directors, and sound designers to ensure the final product aligns with the creative vision. Expect regular feedback sessions and opportunities to contribute creative ideas, making it an excellent learning environment for developing both technical and teamwork skills.
