Job description

We are Techmer PM - the world's foremost materials design firm, creating custom polymers that make up essential products. Through our long-standing partnerships with processors, original equipment manufacturers, and product designers, we've worked for decades to tackle manufacturing and business challenges through sustainable, future-minded solutions.
We are currently seeking a Technical Service Engineer for our Clinton, Tennessee facility.

Reports To: Regulatory & Technical Services Manager
Job Purpose:
Lead and coordinate technical service and product development activities in close partnership with Sales by managing customer technical cases, prioritizing and executing work orders, and providing technical support that enables effective customer solutions, reduces repeat quality issues, and supports new product commercialization and revenue growth, while aligning technical execution with customer needs and commercial objectives owned by the sales team.
Scope of Technical Responsibility
This applies to all technical service staff.
  • Case Management: Own customer technical cases end-to-end, ensuring timely resolution, clear communication, and measurable reduction in repeat quality issues.
  • Work Order Management: Direct and prioritize work orders to support product development, trials, and corrective actions, aligning resources to customer and business priorities.
  • Sales Support: Partner with Sales to provide technical expertise that enables opportunity conversion, supports new product launches, and drives sustainable revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities:
Safety Management
  • Complies with and enforces all company safety procedures and completes all safety training as required
  • Identifies and cultivates opportunities to improve working area conditions
  • Reports on all safety related incidents

Work Order Management
  • Acts as the main point of contact for assigned work orders for the company
  • Own technical execution of new product developments through commercialization
  • Monitors and drives assigned work orders to on-time completion
  • Notifies management of roadblocks to completing work and assist in removing roadblocks as needed
  • 100% notification of late work orders to the work requestor prior to work order being late
  • Turns in raw material code paperwork and assist in raw material code generation
  • Enters formulations into ERP system based on work order, customer, and property requirements
  • Enters quality tests and parameters into ERP system based on formula, product, and customer requirements
  • Research new raw materials and takes part in vendor discussions for either off-sets of current materials or new raw materials
  • Support pricing and margin objectives through formulation and material selection decisions
  • Generates costings upon request and with new developments and sends to internal requestors
  • Develops go-to product lists for product recommendations for various use cases
  • Participates in Kaizen events to optimize process, reduce and eliminate non-conformance and rework and reduce manufacturing costs.

Case Management
  • Own assigned customer cases through closure, including customer communication
  • Coordinate internal product quality cases with relevant teams through root cause analysis & corrective actions
  • Drive reduction of repeat claims (0 repeats) for assigned products and customers
  • Coordinate with QA, review of customer cases for trend identification and correction

Sales Support
  • Partner with Sales to support customer trials, approvals, and launch timelines
  • Support new business development and sales growth through technical expertise, new product launches, and customer conversions
  • Support in creating marketing literature and exhibits as requested
  • Leads and participates in customer technical discussions
  • Provide technical input that supports margin improvement and cost optimization

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience in Excel, Word & PowerPoint
  • Experience in Salesforce would be preferred
  • Great oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of plastic testing analytical test methods
  • Knowledge of plastic extrusion & customer processes (molding/film/fiber etc.)
  • Ability to learn, apply, and expand technical knowledge in product development
  • Ability to interpret and explain analytical and testing data
  • Complete training and professional development as determined by management

Minimum Requirements:
Degree in polymer science, chemistry, engineering preferred.
Five + years of experience in plastics industry (or related) processes needed.
Salary range: $75,000-$95,000
