Job description
Wesleyan University is a highly selective, independent liberal arts institution recognized for its commitment to innovative teaching, interdisciplinary scholarship, and an engaged campus community.
The College of Film and the Moving Image (CFILM) is internationally recognized for its distinctive approach to the study and practice of visual storytelling. Bringing together the Department of Film Studies, the Jeanine Basinger Center for Film Studies, and the Ogden and Mary Louise Reid Cinema Archives, the College advances teaching, research, filmmaking, and public engagement while serving as a destination for scholars and filmmakers from around the world.
Founded in 1982, the Ogden and Mary Louise Reid Cinema Archives has been a pioneer in collecting, curating, and preserving essential materials from the history of film, and making them accessible to scholars, critics, and students. It is the primary repository for documentation from the careers of such historical luminaries as Frank Capra, Elia Kazan, Ingrid Bergman, Raoul Walsh, Stuart Byron, and Kay Francis. It also contains the papers of such modern American artists as John Waters as well as papers donated by Wesleyan alumni working in film and television, including Joss Whedon, Akiva Goldsman, and others. These papers are grounded in film and television history and creation, but they also reach out toward other significant cultural and historical events such as Capra's work as the head of the Office of War Information in World War II, and Kazan's work with the Group Theatre and his House Committee on Un-American Activities testimonies. Altogether, the Archive holds 42 collections, primarily housed in 2,500 square-foot archival vault.
