About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]
This role will be located in the Akron, OH or Greensburg, PA office. Travel to manufacturing facilities and FE substation facilities should also be expected.
Qualified candidates will support the timely processing, ordering and tracking of major substation equipment. This position will report to the Supervisor, Equipment & Standards within the Substation Major Equipment department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to engineering drawing review and approval, order / change order issuance, material needs analysis, vendor interaction and communication, delivery management, supply chain engagement, factory evaluation, specification review and field survey / inspection.
Responsibilities include:
  • Receive, review, and process purchase requisitions accurately. Ensure that all ordered items are tracked and linked to their respective purchase orders.
  • Collaborating closely with other Transmission Specialists, Business Analysts, Administrative Assistants and Engineers to process equipment orders.
  • Detailed drawing review and approval.
  • Managing detailed schedules of vendor milestones to ensure the timely flow of information from FirstEnergy to our various vendors.
  • Close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure equipment order status, management of vendor production capacity and delivery expectations.
  • Working with and directing outside engineering firms, vendors and consultants.
  • Performing demand analysis to capture current and future equipment needs.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments to monitor spares inventory and identify opportunities to cycle unused equipment into construction.
  • Training lesser experienced employees within and outside the Transmission Specialist job family.
  • Working closely with representatives from portfolio, engineering and project management to allocate production slots to priority projects.
  • Change order management.
  • Assisting equipment engineers or outside consultants with factory evaluation.
  • Frequent field visits to gather feedback from field operations and Construction Site Coordination.
  • Participation in factory evaluation, factory acceptance testing and other vendor engagements.
  • Coordination with Engineering Standards, TSS, TPP and others to refine or add new equipment specifications.
  • Rotation of spares inventory into portfolio workload.
  • Engage with vendors and FE stakeholders to appropriately manage deliveries as needed.

Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with a minimum of 2 to 4 years relevant work experience.
  • In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant experience is required.
    • Relevant experience includes utility industry work experience in Supply Chain, Engineering Standards, Major Equipment, Transmission Planning, Substation Technical Services, Substation Design or Project Management.
  • Essential analytical and quantitative skills with demonstrated ability to proactively identify challenges or roadblocks
  • Essential knowledge of applicable computer software necessary to fulfill job duties including but not limited to Microsoft Office, FileNet, Coupa, SAP, CADD and Cascade.
  • Must possess essential abilities to analyze technical requirements / specifications and interpret technical drawings.
  • Essential written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to the appropriate audience.
  • Effectively works with peers and management both internal and external.
