Job description

Job Summary:  Under the general direction of the Education Director and Assistant Director, the Academic Support Services Coordinator plans, coordinates, implement, and evaluates the tutoring services, summer enrichment programming, and college and career advisement for the Education Department. Plans and implements tutoring schedules, summer enrichment activities, college visits, plans and implements career advising programs, provides pre-college and transfer advising services to financial aid eligible students. Researches and recommends for purchase supplies and materials to support college and career advising efforts. Track students who participate in tutoring services, summer enrichment events, college or career technical programs financial aid for success and completion. As assigned and available participate in setup and implementation of related Education Department programs. Establish and maintain relationships with appropriate school districts, college/university outreach and advising staff.  


Essential Duties:

  • Coordinates and communicates with associated public and local schools or colleges/universities to identify students who are in academic jeopardy, and seeks or creates plans for supporting these students.
  • Monitors students who are in academic jeopardy and follows through to support students’ success.
  • Designs, develops, and implements academic support services and college and career advising program for the Education Department.
  • Proposes, plans and implements tutoring services and events, recruits’ tutors, provides administration assistance with Personal Service Agreements (PSA), matches students and tutors, and resolves challenges to ensure academic success for students.
  • Proposes, plans and implements academic support services for students in academic jeopardy that utilizes cross department programming approaches.
  • Proposes, plans and implements summer enrichment programming, activities and events to include activities that produce academic enrichment and culturally specific activities for students and family engagement.
  • Proposes, plans, and implements college visits. This includes researching appropriate schools, preparing a budget, coordinating logistics, recruiting participants, and attending college recruitment visits.
  • Provides financial aid pre-scholarship advising to students as assigned, document conversations for student files.
  • Plan and implements career advising strategies for high school, community college, and adult re-entry students.
  • Researches and recommends for purchase supplies and materials to academic support services and college and career advising effort.
  • Establishes tracking system to monitor students participating in all academic support services and college and career services for success and completion.
  • Establishes a tracking system to monitor students participating in higher education tribal financial aid for success and completion.
  • Prepares reports for the Director and the Education Committee regarding participation and success rate of students receiving tribal financial aid.
  • As appropriate, connects students (elementary, middle, high school and higher education) to resources on their campus (i.e., tutoring, advising, financial aid, housing etc.)
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates college and college motivational speakers.
  • Serves as tribal liaison to educational institutions as relevant and assigned.

As assigned, assist with grant application development that supports academic support services and college and academic support services efforts.



Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education related; Master’s preferred field.

Experience/Basic Knowledge:

  • 3-5 years’ relevant student advising, administrative, and college recruitment experience.
  • Leadership experience with program, personnel, and students’ development.
  • Grant writing and grant administration experience preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have manual dexterity to enter and retrieve data from a computer.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods.

Bends and stoops regularly.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement academic support services programming and college and career programs relevant to tribal needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality with discretion.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
