Position Information
Job Title Financial Aid Specialist - Perkinston Campus Job Description
The Financial Aid Specialist Ill is responsible for assisting the Director of Financial Aid with all aspects of the Financial Aid Office functions and performs, with the assistance of other staff members, all necessary duties and responsibilities that are necessary for this position.
Job Duties
1. Maintain accurate and complete record keeping.
2. Utilize word processing skills and proper phone etiquette to effectively communicate with students, parents and other financial aid stakeholders.
3. Maintain an effective working relationship with college personnel and the community.
4. Upgrade skill level and performance through staff development and continuing education opportunities.
5. Be familiar with the College Catalog and Student Handbook.
6. Be familiar with and abide by MGCCC Policies and Procedures Manual.
7. Load all software (initial release and upgrades) from the US Department of Education and the State Financial Aid Office and work with IT staff to resolve any problems with software functionality.
8. Download and import electronic data exchange records and reports into Banner; disseminate messages from the Department of Education to the Director of Financial Aid for follow-up as needed.
9. Electronically transmit data to and from the US Department of Education.
10. Assist in the reconciliation of awards and disbursements for Federal and State Aid Programs.
11. Assist in the file review, verification and award processing of financial aid applicants.
12. Coordinate letter generation within Banner for tracking requirements, satisfactory academic progress, and award notification and other correspondence as required.
13. Coordinate the Transfer Student Monitoring Process.
14. Prepare and review reports as necessary.
15. Demonstrate exceptional adherence to work schedules and policies as exemplary performance for coworkers.
16. Utilize the Banner administrative software and other appropriate software to support office procedures and job duties.
17. Perform duties in a multi-task environment with minimum supervision, initiative, good organizational skills, and proficient verbal/written communication skills.
18. Update student records to reflect scholarship authorizations in a timely manner.
19. Monitor third party payments and other outside awards to ensure over awards do not occur.
20. Assist with monitoring satisfactory academic progress standards and enrollment status changes.
21. Maintain confidentiality of all conversations and documents for financial aid applicants and recipients.
22. Commit to the highest level of ethical behavior and refrain from conflict of interest or the perception thereof.
23. Assure equity by applying all financial aid consistently across the institution's full population of student financial aid applicants.
24. Educate students and families on financial literacy topics.
25. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and/or Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management.
Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) Minimum of an Associate of Arts Degree or Applied Science Degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
(M2) Two years' experience working In a professional office setting.
(M3) Skilled in the operation of personal computers and Microsoft Office products.
(M4) Exceptional organizational skills, communication skills and attention to detail.
Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
(D2) Experience with Banner VM or other administrative software.
(D3) Experience working In a community or college/university setting.
(D4) Experience in financial aid or other student-oriented work environment.
