Job description

Frontend Engineer Location: Austin, TX (hybrid)

Schedule: Full-time | Hybrid (2-3 days in office)

Work Authorization Notice: At this time, we are unable to provide immigration sponsorship for this position. Candidates must have current, unrestricted authorization to work in the country where the role is based.

About Us Togetherwork is a $250M recurring revenue SaaS business with more than 33 software applications serving over 12 vertical markets. We help communities, organizations, and businesses thrive by delivering purpose-built software that supports their missions and operations.

Headquartered on South Congress in Austin, TX, Togetherwork is scaling rapidly. We are customer-focused, execution-driven, and committed to operational excellence. Our teams value accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

About the Role Togetherwork is seeking a Frontend Engineer to incrementally modernize the user interfaces of 20+ SaaS products across a polyglot stack while keeping everything running for customers. Not prototyping - replacing live, production legacy UIs.

You will work from Figma designs, leverage AI coding tools to accelerate implementation, and own the full journey from design handoff to backend integration. You are expected to use AI tools as a core part of your daily workflow.

What You'll Do

Legacy UI Modernization Incrementally replace server-rendered UIs with modern React components without breaking what is currently running. You understand the strangler pattern, know when to wrap versus replace, and scope modernization work into small shippable increments that are safe to deploy.

  • Figma to Production Take Figma designs from handoff to production-ready React components using AI tools to accelerate code generation, then apply the judgment to validate, refine, and ship. You know the difference between AI output that is ready to ship and output that needs to be reworked.
  • Backend Integration Identify when a legacy server-rendered product needs API decoupling before the frontend can be modernized, and work with backend engineers to solve that problem.
  • AI-Augmented Development Use AI models as active tools in your daily workflow, accelerating Figma-to-code implementation. You evaluate AI output critically and know when to accept, refine, or rewrite.
  • Quality and Stability Implement feature flags for UI changes so rollback is always possible. Write unit and visual regression tests to catch when modernized components affect surrounding legacy UI. Own performance benchmarking before and after modernization to demonstrate measurable improvement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Work directly with designers on Figma handoff, product managers on scope and priority, and backend engineers on API contracts. Communicate modernization trade-offs clearly.

What You'll Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience as a frontend engineer
  • Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Hands-on experience modernizing at least one server-rendered legacy stack: PHP, Ruby on Rails, or .NET.
  • Experience with incremental modernization patterns.
  • Demonstrated use of AI coding tools to ship production frontend code.
  • Figma handoff experience.
  • Backend integration experience with understanding of API decoupling requirements.
  • Proven frontend testing proficiency.
  • Experience with feature flagging for safe incremental UI rollout.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience across multiple products or a platform engineering team simultaneously.
  • Accessibility awareness (WCAG compliance) especially when modernizing legacy UI.
  • Component library experience.

Why You'll Love Working Here At Togetherwork, we help community-driven organizations grow and thrive - creating better experiences for the people they serve.

We are guided by values that shape how we work every day:

Obsess over our customers Own it. Together. Move fast with purpose
