What is a Figma Developer?

A Figma Developer is a professional who specializes in using Figma, a collaborative interface design tool, to create, prototype, and refine user interfaces for web and mobile applications. They often bridge the gap between design and development by turning Figma designs into interactive prototypes or production-ready code. Figma Developers work closely with designers and front-end engineers to ensure design consistency and usability across digital products. Their expertise includes working with Figma's features, plugins, and sometimes integrating Figma assets with development workflows.

Is Figma a UI or UX tool?

Figma is a design tool used by Figma Developers to create both user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) designs. It supports collaborative prototyping, wireframing, and visual design, making it suitable for designing the overall look and feel as well as the user flow of digital products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Figma Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Figma Developer, you need a strong grasp of UI/UX design principles, proficiency in Figma, and a solid understanding of front-end development languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with design systems, prototyping tools, and version control platforms such as Git is typically required. Collaboration, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for translating design concepts into functional, user-friendly interfaces. These skills ensure high-quality, consistent digital products and smooth collaboration between design and development teams.

Is it hard to get hired at Figma?

Figma developers typically need strong skills in UI/UX design, proficiency with Figma software, and a solid understanding of front-end development. The hiring process can be competitive, often involving technical assessments and portfolio reviews, but candidates with relevant experience and skills have good opportunities.

How does a Figma Developer typically collaborate with designers and other team members during a project?

A Figma Developer works closely with designers by translating design prototypes into interactive, production-ready components while ensuring the final product matches the intended user experience. They often participate in design handoff meetings, provide technical feedback, and use Figma's collaborative features to communicate changes and resolve questions in real time. Additionally, they may work alongside front-end developers, product managers, and QA specialists to ensure seamless integration of designs into the development workflow. This role requires strong communication skills and a proactive approach to addressing design and technical challenges.

Is UX a difficult job?

Figma Developers often work within UX design, which can be challenging due to the need for creativity, user empathy, and technical skills in tools like Figma. Success in this role requires understanding user needs, collaborating with teams, and continuously learning new design principles. The difficulty varies based on experience and project complexity.

What does Figma developer do?

A Figma developer designs and creates user interfaces and prototypes using Figma, a collaborative design tool. They work closely with designers and developers to translate design concepts into functional digital products, often requiring knowledge of front-end development and design best practices.

What is the difference between Figma Developer vs UI Designer?

AspectFigma DeveloperUI Designer

Job description

Job Requisition ID #

26WD98840Position Overview

We are building a SaaS platform that packages Autodesk Consulting's intellectual property - proven workflows, implementation guidance, learning content, and tooling recommendations - into a scalable digital experience that connects customers and internal Autodesk consultants to the knowledge they need to drive successful digital transformation. The platform is new, the roadmap is ambitious, and the details matter enormously.

As Platform Product Owner, you sit at the critical intersection of product vision and engineering execution. You work closely with the Platform Product Manager to deeply understand strategic intent, and you are responsible for translating that intent into well-defined, sprint-ready user stories that development teams can build with confidence. You collaborate closely with our UI/UX designer to ensure high-fidelity wireframes and prototypes reflect both the product vision and the detailed requirements that make them buildable. You work directly with scrum teams across India and Poland to clarify requirements at the detail level, resolve ambiguity, and maintain alignment between what gets built and what was intended.

This role requires someone who is energized by the craft of breaking complex problems into clear, executable work - and who understands that maintaining the integrity of the product vision through the details of execution is one of the most important and underappreciated skills in product development.

Responsibilities
  • Break down high-level epics and product requirements into clearly defined, sprint-ready user stories with well-articulated acceptance criteria
  • Develop a deep understanding of the platform product vision and serve as its guardian at the execution layer, ensuring that detail-level decisions remain true to strategic intent
  • Work closely with the Platform Product Manager to clarify priorities and translate roadmap direction into actionable work for scrum teams
  • Collaborate with the UI/UX designer to ensure wireframes and prototypes accurately reflect detailed requirements before development begins
  • Partner with globally distributed scrum teams in India and Poland to answer questions, resolve ambiguity, and maintain development momentum
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or risks in requirements early, and escalate or resolve them before they impact delivery
  • Maintain and manage the product backlog, ensuring it is well-organized, up to date, and accurately reflects current priorities
  • Adapt to shifting team assignments and priorities as the product and operating model evolve
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in a product ownership or equivalent role
  • Demonstrated ability to break down complex, ambiguous product requirements into well-defined, executable user stories
  • Strong capacity to internalize and represent a product vision, maintaining its integrity through detailed execution without requiring constant direction
  • Experience working directly with engineering teams, including clarifying requirements and supporting development through delivery
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, early-stage product environment where priorities shift and the operating model continues to evolve
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across globally distributed teams and time zones
  • Experience collaborating with UI/UX designers to align detailed requirements with high-fidelity design artifacts
Experience With Technologies Such As
  • Jira for backlog management and sprint planning
  • Confluence for documentation and requirements management
  • Figma (plus)
  • Productboard (plus)
The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate understands that product vision is only as strong as the execution that delivers it. They take ownership of the space between strategic direction and engineering delivery - not waiting to be told what every story should say, but actively working to understand the intent behind the roadmap and making thoughtful, independent decisions about how to express that intent in the details.

They are exceptionally good at their craft. Writing clear, well-structured user stories with meaningful acceptance criteria is not a chore for them - it is how they think. They anticipate the questions engineers will ask before they are asked, and they close gaps before they become problems.

They are a disciplined collaborator. They work closely with the Platform PM without needing everything spelled out, and they work closely with designers and engineering teams without losing the thread of what the product is trying to accomplish. They understand that in a fast-moving, early-stage environment, a strong Product Owner is what stands between a well-articulated vision and a product that drifts from it in the details.
