Figma Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Figma Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Figma Developer, you need a strong grasp of UI/UX design principles, proficiency in Figma, and a solid understanding of front-end development languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with design systems, prototyping tools, and version control platforms such as Git is typically required. Collaboration, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for translating design concepts into functional, user-friendly interfaces. These skills ensure high-quality, consistent digital products and smooth collaboration between design and development teams.

How does a Figma Developer typically collaborate with designers and other team members during a project?

A Figma Developer works closely with designers by translating design prototypes into interactive, production-ready components while ensuring the final product matches the intended user experience. They often participate in design handoff meetings, provide technical feedback, and use Figma's collaborative features to communicate changes and resolve questions in real time. Additionally, they may work alongside front-end developers, product managers, and QA specialists to ensure seamless integration of designs into the development workflow. This role requires strong communication skills and a proactive approach to addressing design and technical challenges.

What is a Figma Developer?

A Figma Developer is a professional who specializes in using Figma, a collaborative interface design tool, to create, prototype, and refine user interfaces for web and mobile applications. They often bridge the gap between design and development by turning Figma designs into interactive prototypes or production-ready code. Figma Developers work closely with designers and front-end engineers to ensure design consistency and usability across digital products. Their expertise includes working with Figma's features, plugins, and sometimes integrating Figma assets with development workflows.

What is the difference between Figma Developer vs UI Designer?

AspectFigma DeveloperUI Designer
Primary FocusImplementing designs in Figma, creating prototypes, collaborating on design systemsDesigning user interfaces, creating visual layouts, selecting color schemes and typography
Skills & CertificationsProficiency in Figma, basic understanding of front-end code, collaboration skillsDesign tools (Adobe XD, Sketch), visual design skills, user experience knowledge
Work EnvironmentDesign teams, product teams, often in tech or digital agenciesCreative studios, in-house design teams, digital agencies

While both roles work closely on digital product design, a Figma Developer specializes in translating designs into interactive prototypes and collaborating on design systems within Figma, often with some coding knowledge. A UI Designer focuses on creating the visual aspects of interfaces, emphasizing aesthetics and user experience. Understanding these differences helps employers and job seekers align expectations and skills.

Job description

About Us

We are FLiiP, a fast-growing SaaS startup transforming the management of fitness centers and multi-site operators. Our all-in-one platform helps gyms and studios centralize their operations, automate their communications, and maximize member retention.

Backed by over CAD $4M in seed funding and participants in the Google for Startups Accelerator, we are experiencing sustained growth across North America. With an AI-first vision and a culture of continuous experimentation, we are a team that truly builds.

The Role

As part of our platform modernization, we are recruiting a UI/Front-End Developer to build and implement our design system. This is a foundational role: you will be responsible for bridging the gap between design vision and technical implementation, working in close collaboration with our UI/UX designer.

The profile we are looking for is a hybrid one: someone who starts from design (Figma, UI), masters CSS, and goes all the way to integration in React.

Key Responsibilities

Design System Implementation

  • Build and maintain a React component library using Storybook, based on our Figma designs.
  • Create reusable components following atomic design principles.
  • Establish design tokens, usage patterns, and associated documentation.

Integration & CSS

  • Deliver pixel-perfect, responsive, cross-browser compatible interfaces (web and React Native mobile).
  • Write clean and maintainable CSS, taking into account our existing codebase constraints.

Legacy Code Modernization

  • Progressively refactor HTML/CSS/jQuery/JavaScript code toward modern standards.
  • Maintain backward compatibility while improving code quality and consistency.

Collaboration & Tools

  • Work closely with our designer to validate the technical feasibility of designs.
  • Use AI tools (Copilot, Cursor, etc.) to accelerate repetitive tasks.

Requirements

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in front-end development.
  • Advanced CSS skills: responsive, flexbox, grid, animations, cross-browser compatibility.
  • Solid experience with vanilla JavaScript and jQuery (reading and modifying existing code).
  • Good command of React: functional components, state management, lifecycle.
  • Experience with Figma and translating designs into code.
  • Comfortable in a startup environment, with legacy code and evolving priorities.
  • Good communication skills in French and/or English.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Storybook or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with design systems and atomic design methodology.
  • Knowledge of CSS-in-JS solutions (styled-components, emotion).
  • Use of AI tools in the development workflow.
  • Bilingual French/English.
  • Ability to present your design work to multiple stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on profile and experience.
  • 50% coverage of group health insurance premiums.
  • Health and wellness support: gym allowance, fitness classes, team sports, and $900/year in telecommunications allowance.
  • A 100% remote position in Canada, with only 1 day/month required at our Brossard office.
  • The opportunity to directly contribute to the growth of an AI-driven company in a large and underserved market.
  • Close collaboration with our leadership team in a culture built on fitness, innovation, and speed.

We are looking for someone who loves clean code as much as the interface it produces, and who wants to leave a lasting mark on a fast-growing product.
