This position is eligible for our health benefits package on the first of the month following 60 days of employment and for our Paid Time Off (PTO) program after 90 days of employment.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Food Service Worker Lead assists with the daily operation of the Dietary Services Department in a California skilled nursing facility (SNF). This position provides leadership and guidance to dietary aides while ensuring residents receive meals that comply with physician orders, therapeutic diets, California Department of Public Health (CDPH) regulations, infection control standards, and facility policies. The Food Service Worker Lead promotes quality resident care, food safety, and excellent customer service in accordance with state and federal long-term care regulations.
The Food Service Worker reports directly to the Dietary Manager/Registered Dietician.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead and support dietary aides during food preparation, tray line, meal service, dishwashing, and sanitation duties. Preps food items for cooks.
- Ensure resident meals are prepared and served according to physician-prescribed diets, texture modifications, and portion standards.
- Review tray cards, diet lists, and nourishments for accuracy before meal service.
4. Assist in monitoring compliance with:
• California Department of Public Health (CDPH) regulations
• Centers for Medicare amp; Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements
• OSHA workplace safety standards
• Infection prevention and control procedures
• Food safety and sanitation guidelines
- Maintain proper food temperatures and complete the required documentation logs.
- Ensure compliance with Title 22 regulations related to dietary services in skilled nursing facilities.
- Train and mentor new dietary staff in department procedures, safety practices, resident rights, and customer service expectations.
- Assist with inventory control, stock rotation (FIFO), and supply organization.
- Report resident nutrition concerns, meal refusals, or diet discrepancies to nursing staff and the Dietary Manager or Registered Dietitian.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, workstations, storage areas, and dining rooms.
- Participate in state survey preparedness and corrective action plan as assigned.
- Promote resident dignity, confidentiality, and person-centered care at all times.
- Follow all facility policies regarding abuse prevention, HIPAA confidentiality, and emergency procedures.
- Attends and participates in Department meetings.
- Assists with special projects as needed.
- Ensures the safety, health and welfare of staff and residents at all times.
- Provides encouragement, guidance and resources to staff and residents when needed.
- Acts as a positive role model and mentor for staff.
- Adheres to company policies and Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program Code of Conduct.
- Other duties as assigned from direct supervisor and/or department Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum one (1) year of food service experience in healthcare, skilled nursing, or long-term care setting preferred.
- Prior lead or supervisory care setting preferred.
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets, IDDSI modified textures, and nutrition services in long-term care.
- Knowledge of California food safety and sanitation standards.
- Current California Food Handler Card required or ability to obtain within required timeframe.
- Must have the ability to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment while meeting regulatory compliance.
- Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and provide support in a clear, concise and respectful manner.
- Thorough documentation skills include grammatical, spelling and organization.
- The ability to read, write and communicate to residents, staff, families, vendors, and all business relationships in English language.
- Ability to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical and TB test.
- Able to work more than 40 hours per week (upon Dept. Director approval) with the possibility of a varied schedule.
- Must have excellent organization and time management skills.
- Must be able to communicate with all levels of staff in an effective, neutral and professional manner.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and changing business conditions.
- Proficient in the use of computers and associated software.
