APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE*** Job Summary The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) is hiring for an IT Professional 2 in Las Vegas. The incumbent supervises lower-level IT technicians.

Responsibilities include planning, performance evaluations, preparing work performance standards, work assignment and review, scheduling, training and discipline, as well as performing technical duties when required. The duties of this position will include working with tools to manage software and hardware centrally, as well as installation, diagnosis, servicing, and repairing computer and peripheral hardware and software. Incumbents will also perform upgrades, modifications, and hardware/software relocations.

User support is performed both in person and through remote assistance. The incumbent will also assist with virtualized hardware and software through VMware and other virtual tools throughout the agency. This position may require travel within the State of Nevada to other sites.

The incumbent will train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of junior IT Technicians; apply state purchasing procedures when researching and preparing requisitions; resolve software licensing issues; and have demonstrated ability to train, coach, and supervise junior IT Technicians who use imaging software to configure workstations; install and test new and recycled workstations; install Agency-approved application software on client computers; complete all required transfer/delivery documents; make appropriate changes, get signatures and deliver documents to assigned inventory staff; respond to help desk calls and resolve problems as assigned; review Help Desk log daily and annotate with resolutions to Help tickets; install, test and replace hardware as required on client computers; contact vendors for hardware or software support as required; and assist in periodic IT equipment inventories. Good customer service skills are required, as well as the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with technical and non-technical personnel. Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security.

Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency. Essential Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security; OR two years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service; OR four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Job Duties Conduct detailed alternative analyses and determine end-user requirements through consultation with end-users, technicians, vendors, management, and others.

Maintain documentation related to the assigned IT specialization's architecture, operations, and other records of work activities as required. Maintain current knowledge of technological trends and advancements in the IT field as well as security management practices, laws, policies, and ethics. Participate in recommending and justifying resource allocations and expenditure decisions, tracking, and recording expenditures, preparing purchase requests, and writing technical requirements for grant proposals.

Perform related duties as assigned. Under general supervision, incumbents perform journey level duties and may serve as a lead worker to lower-level IT staff as assigned. This is a supervisory level for the Computer Operations function.

Computer Operations: Working knowledge of: basic elements of programming in order to generate all required reports and special projects as required of the data processing section; computer operating system including all functions, schedules, workflows, and processes: date communication networks; principles of operation, capabilities and limitations of a computer system and related environmental equipment in order to efficiently and effectively produce the final work product; supervisory principles and techniques.

General knowledge of: diagnostic procedures as needed in verifying systems; principles of operation, capabilities and limitations of a computer system and related environmental equipment to produce the final work product efficiently and effectively; the principles of operation, capabilities and limitations of a multi-programming computer system and related equipment. Ability to: plan, organize and direct a shift or multi-shift operation of a computer system to facilitate the workflow.
