What does a field project manager do?

A Field Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating projects at job sites, ensuring that work is completed safely, on time, and within budget. They manage teams, allocate resources, and serve as the primary point of contact between the office and field operations. Their duties often include scheduling, quality control, safety compliance, and problem-solving to address any issues that arise during the project. Effective communication and leadership skills are essential for this role.

How does a field project manager typically balance on-site responsibilities with administrative tasks?

Field Project Managers often split their time between the project site and the office, managing both hands-on coordination and essential paperwork. On-site, they oversee project progress, address unforeseen challenges, and coordinate with crews and subcontractors. Off-site or in the office, they handle budgeting, scheduling, reporting, and client communications. Efficient time management and clear delegation are key to ensuring both aspects are handled effectively, supporting project goals and team cohesion.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a field project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Field Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, industry-specific knowledge, and typically a bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with project management software (such as MS Project or Procore), budgeting tools, and safety compliance certifications like OSHA are often required. Leadership, problem-solving, and effective communication are critical soft skills that set top candidates apart. These skills and qualifications are vital for coordinating teams, meeting project deadlines, and ensuring successful project delivery in dynamic field environments.

Job description

Company Overview

Amplify People is partnering with a well-established custom integration company in South Florida that designs and installs high-performance smart home systems. This team is known for doing things the right way—clean execution, strong client communication, and a “we’re in this together” mindset.

Why Join Us?

If you’ve ever felt like you were capable of more—but stuck in a role where you’re just checking boxes, chasing parts, or getting second-guessed at every turn—this is the opposite of that.

In this role, you’ll step into a trusted, high-impact position where your experience actually matters. You’ll have the autonomy to run the site, make smart calls, and keep projects moving—without three layers of managers slowing everything down. Leadership here is “lead by example” leadership: the kind that jumps in when needed, values craftsmanship, and respects people who take ownership.

This team is also intentional about building a place people want to stay. It’s a family-style culture (the real kind—not the cheesy kind) where relationships form naturally, collaboration is the norm, and everyone’s expected to do quality work without ego. You’ll be surrounded by people who care about doing it right—clean installs, strong standards, and a polished client experience.

A few things that make this a standout opportunity:

  • Autonomy + trust: You’re empowered to make decisions and execute efficiently—no micromanagement.
  • Visible impact: This hire is a priority because it helps shift the owner out of the field; what you do will immediately change the business.
  • Room to grow: You’ll have space to excel, learn, and level up—without being boxed into “just a tech.”
  • Pride in workmanship: Attention to detail is valued here (wire management, symmetry, SOPs, jobsite professionalism).
  • People you actually like: Monthly lunches, an annual holiday party, occasional outings.
  • Life-friendly culture: The company is flexible when life happens—and backs up the “we value you” message with meaningful perks like paid birthdays and anniversaries (after one year).

If you’re a confident, calm, low-ego leader who wants to own projects end-to-end—and be part of a team that works hard and enjoys working together—this is a rare seat.

Job Overview

We’re hiring a Field Project Manager who can lead residential job sites while also handling the technical “last 10%” that determines whether a project is truly finished—programming, punch lists, commissioning, quality control, and client walkthroughs.

You’ll work closely with the company’s system design / back-end PM function to ensure every project is delivered on time, on budget, and up to spec—and that the client understands what they’re getting at turnover.

Responsibilities

  • Lead job sites day-to-day: set direction, delegate tasks, and keep the crew productive and aligned
  • Execute projects to completion: drive punch lists, verify readiness, and ensure systems are truly turnkey
  • Provide high-level troubleshooting and support to field technicians as needed
  • Perform programming and final configuration (commonly including Control4 and Lutron)
  • Maintain strong job site standards: cleanliness, organization, wire management, labeling, and consistency (SOP mindset)
  • Deliver quality control: catch issues early and speak up when something needs to change
  • Run client walkthroughs and commissioning: confirm the delivered system matches what was sold and that the client understands how to use it
  • Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders (design/PM) when scope changes or additional product is required

Qualifications

  • Experience in residential custom integration (AV / automation) with strong field leadership capability
  • Proven ability to run job sites and drive projects across the finish line
  • Strong client-facing communication and listening skills (able to translate needs, confirm understanding, and build trust)
  • High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
  • A “player-coach” mindset: willing to jump in when needed
  • Control4 programming experience (certification a plus)
  • Lutron HomeWorks experience (or demonstrated pathway to learn quickly)
  • Ability to confidently own the last-mile delivery: programming, punch, commissioning, turnover

Benefits & Perks

  • Paid Time Off (PTO) + sick time (with accrual structure based on tenure)
  • Paid birthday off
  • Paid anniversary off
  • Company vehicle
  • Team culture: monthly lunches + annual holiday gathering + periodic outings

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $90,000 – $110,000 (DOE)
  • Bonus: Project based bonus paid quarterly
