Job description

About the Position
We are seeking a Field Inspector (Construction Inspector, Transportation Infrastructure) to support large public infrastructure programs, including transit and rail capital projects. This role helps ensure construction activities comply with applicable codes, regulations, contract specifications, and approved project drawings through regular site inspections and documentation. The Field Inspector monitors construction activities, verifies materials and workmanship meet project requirements, and documents field conditions to support quality control and overall project oversight.
This is a long-term, full-time, on-site position located in Atlanta, GA
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Assist in monitoring on-site construction activities to ensure materials, workmanship, and installed products comply with approved construction contract documents.
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain daily inspection reports documenting work activities, quantities installed, and jobsite conditions.
  • Conduct inspections and site observations to verify construction quality and compliance with project requirements.
  • Report documented construction quality issues to project leadership, including the Quality Assurance Engineer and Resident Engineer.
  • Update construction documents with redlines when minor field modifications occur.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of project quality control plans and recommend corrective or preventive actions to address deficiencies.
  • Coordinate with the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer to understand project documentation, technical requirements, and construction submittals.
  • Assist with technical reviews of contractor submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs) to confirm compliance with project specifications.
  • Verify quantities associated with contractor progress payments to ensure completed work aligns with project documentation.
  • Identify and report safety concerns or schedule deviations observed in the field.
  • Provide mentorship or support to junior inspection staff when applicable.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in engineering, construction management, engineering technology, or related field. In lieu of the educational requirement, directly related experience will substitute on a year-for-year basis.
  • 3+ years' experience performing construction inspection or supporting construction activities on infrastructure or transportation projects.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Knowledge of applicable construction codes and engineering or architectural terminology.
  • Experience performing field inspections within infrastructure, transportation, or general construction environments.
  • Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with Georgia law.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or engineering technology.
  • Current OSHA 30 certification.
  • One or more of the following certifications: Right-of-Way (ROW), Track Standards, Flagging & Communications, PTSCTP (Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program), State Safety Oversight (SSO) and/or HAZWOPER.
  • Experience supporting public transit, rail, or transportation infrastructure programs.
  • Experience supporting federally funded transportation projects.
  • Experience mentoring or training junior inspection staff.

Compensation Details
Expected Salary: $72k-$93k/year ($35-$45/hour). Luster provides the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might offer for this position based on the successful candidate's level of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, education, certifications, licenses, geographic location, etc. Luster reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range depending on circumstances not related to any status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
