Position Overview Asphalt Inspector

Were looking for an Asphalt Inspector to support our expanding portfolio of infrastructure
projects. In this role, youll play an essential part in ensuring quality, durability, and compliance across field inspections, testing, and project execution.


What Youll Do

Technical & Field Inspection

  • Observe and inspect hot-mix asphalt (HMA) paving operations to ensure compliance with contract specifications
  • Use nuclear density gauges to verify in-place asphalt compaction and density
  • Extract asphalt pavement cores and prepare them for transport to AEISs laboratory for further analysis
  • Perform sampling and field testing of asphalt and related paving materials
  • Submit daily inspection reports within <24 hours
  • Maintain 90%+ completion of all assigned safety training
  • Target zero avoidable safety or equipment incidents
  • Submit 98% of draft reports within 8 hours with minimal revisions
  • Maintain 95% on-time site check-in/check-out
  • Less than 1 serious issue per quarter related to Inspections, Measuring, and Test Equipment due to technician error, lack of maintenance, or lost/damaged equipment

Documentation & Quality Records

  • Maintain accurate inspection records using AEIS digital reporting tools
  • Review and verify technical documents (e.g., WPS/PQR, lab results, etc.)

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and QA/QC Specialists
  • Contribute to lessons-learned discussions and workflow improvements

What We're Looking For

Must Haves

  • NICET Level II Highway Construction (preferred)
  • NETTCP Paving Inspector (preferred)
  • Alfred State University HMA Density Inspector (preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience in construction inspection/testing
  • Experience operating nuclear density gauges (Troxler or Humbolt)
  • Familiarity with core extraction techniques for asphalt
  • OSHA 30 Construction Safety Training (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong communication and attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel to project sites

Bonus Points

  • NETTCP Asphalt Plant Technician (optional)
  • NJSAT HMA Construction Technologist (optional)
  • Experience with public infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with structural steel construction practices
