Job Description
The Inspector Coordinator (IC) provides work direction and logistical support for third-party inspector contractors and serves as the primary communication link between Basin Integrity Leads and third-party inspection services. The IC is a focal point for distributing, directing, and supervising field inspection work, ensuring inspection activities are executed safely, effectively, and in accordance with the approved scope of work, procedures, and applicable codes/standards. The role also supports quality surveillance activities, procurement and installation quality matters, and oversight of supplier/contractor inspection activities, including participation in manufacturing/fabrication surveillance and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) when required.
Responsibilities
- Promote safety within area of specialty and enforce safety policies and standards for all third-party contractor crew members
- Provide work direction and logistical support for field inspection activities
- Identify inspection needs and define workforce plans with input from Basin Integrity Leads
- Schedule, coordinate, and supervise field inspection work across multiple sites
- Serve as the communication link between Basin Integrity Leads and third-party inspection services
- Implement and steward the site inspection program according to the provided scope of work
- Ensure approved procedures, NDE techniques, equipment, and qualified personnel are used for inspection activities
- Review inspection reports for completeness and accuracy; ensure inspection data is current and up to date
- Identify inconsistencies between work practices and written documentation and provide feedback for correction
- Provide feedback to Basin Integrity Leads regarding performance of contract inspection personnel
- Report inspection findings to the Basin Integrity Lead
- Ensure equipment history and inspection records are updated in the CMMS
- Provide quality expertise in inspection disciplines (e.g., fixed equipment, rotating equipment, instrumentation/electrical, or NDE)
- Advise on quality matters associated with procurement and installation of equipment
- Monitor production processes and perform surveillance in manufacturing or fabrication environments
- Coordinate and oversee third-party and/or contractor source inspectors
- Perform surveillance and quality inspection activities in accordance with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
- Provide direction to suppliers on quality management and review contractor/supplier quality documents for accuracy and adequacy
- Manage interfaces between suppliers, contractors, quality supervision, and other project disciplines (e.g., Engineering, Construction)
- Lead development and execution of oversight programs for high-criticality activities or critical equipment inspections
- Participate in FATs, final inspection release activities, review supplier QC documents, and support punch list closure
- Keep Quality supervision updated on the status of quality issues
- Validate contractor/supplier procedures for inspection and testing/examination
- Generate, review, and revise operational procedures for inspection and test equipment
- Support development of method statements and/or examination technique recommendations; travel to sites when requested to provide technical advice for compliance
- Perform audits/assessments of contractor/supplier inspection implementation and document deficiencies
- Perform supplementary inspections/verifications per ITP and project surveillance plans
- Provide early warning of potential quality problems and support avoidance/resolution
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of pressure vessel and tank inspection techniques, including NDE methods: UT, RT, MT, PT, VT
- Strong knowledge of API 510, API 653, and API 570
- Deep understanding of ASME, API, and DOT regulations and engineering principles and practices
- Familiarity with CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, FSM, Oracle, Meridiam) for managing inspection records and equipment history
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Project coordination and scheduling skills to manage inspection workflows and contractor activities
- Strong communication and reporting skills to interface with Basin Integrity Leads, contractors, suppliers, and project teams
- Safety leadership and ability to enforce safety policies and standards
- Team supervision and contractor management experience
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and proactive problem-solving approach
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related technical field (equivalent industry experience may be considered)
- 6-10 years of experience in oil & gas operations, with at least 3 years in inspection coordination or integrity management roles
- Demonstrated ability to work in field environments and coordinate inspection activities across multiple sites
- Willing and able to business travel (domestic/overseas) to project sites to provide various levels of support
- Required certification: API 653 - Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector
- Preferred certifications: API 510, API 570, NDE Level II or III in UT/MT/PT/RT
- Proficient with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and presentations
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience executing project construction or quality assurance/control of procurement or construction activities
- Manufacturing, fabrication, or construction experience related to project scope
- Recent experience in a selected inspection discipline

Pay: $82.18/hr, Reimbursable travel - for travel to Carlsbad, NM and outlying Texas areas
