As an intern, you'll get hands-on experience right away, working alongside project teams, subcontractors, and partners to keep things moving on site. You'll help solve real problems, stay organized, communicate across teams, and make an impact from day one while building the foundation for your career.
Responsibilities
Learn from the best. Potential job functions based on internship type may include:
  • Championing Mortenson's zero injury safety requirements
  • Participate in Daily Safety Audits
  • Coordinate and participate in worker observations
  • Support the onsite new team member Orientation process
  • Host daily stretch & bend
  • Provide support to the field as a technical resource from OSHA, ZIPTM, MSDS, Event Management and more
  • Assist in incident investigation and analysis
  • Complete and aid in training of our onsite safety program
  • Collaborate on ways to continue to advance our industry leading safety program

Program Overview:
Our spring intern program (January - April 2027) is designed to give you real, hands-on experience from day one, working on meaningful projects that directly impact the business. You'll gain exposure to innovative work, build professional skills through development opportunities, and be supported by a team that values your growth. Your ideas matter here, and you'll have the chance to contribute, learn, and make a difference while exploring your career path.
Project Assignment:
You will have the opportunity to join our team in one of our many industries, with placement aligned by individual interests and evolving organizational priorities. Project and team placement promote meaningful work, professional growth, and broad exposure to strategic initiatives that drive enterprise impact.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate, two or four-year degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or other related field
  • Are willing to be mobile/relocate
  • Possess a current driver's license and have access to reliable transportation
  • Are comfortable with exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, and a trailer office environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have previous related internship experience
  • Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate junior
  • Have a basic understanding of construction and generally accepted business practices
  • Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills and show initiative and leadership
  • Showcase a positive and professional attitude and solid customer service skills
  • Are detail-oriented, organized, and can effectively handle multiple competing priorities

The hourly wage for college Interns starts at $18. Students may be paid higher wages based on their year in school.
