SUMMARY

The Network Planning & Expansion Manager is responsible for owning the end-to-end process of extending Intrepid's fiber network to serve commercial customers and new developments-from initial inbound request through design, costing, and handoff to construction.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering, construction, and business development, translating opportunity into executable network expansion plans. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, "player-coach" who can perform desktop OSP designs, develop accurate cost estimates, and build scalable processes that enable rapid, high-quality quote delivery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: What will you be doing?

  • Own the end-to-end process of network extensions from inbound request through design, cost estimation, and handoff to construction
  • Develop desktop OSP designs using tools such as Vetro to extend fiber networks to commercial locations and new developments
  • Translate inbound opportunities into feasible network designs, including route selection and high-level architecture
  • Produce accurate, detailed cost estimates covering labor, materials, and construction considerations
  • Partner with Business Development to deliver timely, high-quality quotes that support commercial opportunities
  • Engage directly with customers, developers, and municipalities to gather requirements and refine project scope
  • Build and scale workflows to increase throughput, reduce turnaround time, and improve estimate accuracy
  • Manage and prioritize a pipeline of opportunities, balancing speed, quality, and cost control
  • Prepare and deliver complete construction handoff packages, including design documentation and cost assumptions
  • Support contractor selection and remain engaged during construction to provide design clarification and resolve issues
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Construction, Business Development, and Engineering to ensure alignment and successful execution

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Who will you be in charge of?

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across network extension projects, ensuring designs are feasible, cost-effective, and aligned with standards
  • Coordinate and oversee external contractors and vendors, including supporting selection and ensuring alignment with project scope and expectations
  • Lead project execution for network extensions as needed, including prioritization, issue resolution, and cross-functional coordination with Construction and Business Development
  • Support the development of scalable processes and may provide mentorship or guidance to future team members as the function grows

COMPETENCIES: What do you bring to the team?

  • 5+ years of experience in telecom, fiber, or OSP network design, construction, or related field
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or in lieu of a degree, equivalent demonstrated experience will be accepted
  • Hands-on experience with OSP design and network extension planning
  • Experience developing cost estimates for fiber construction projects
  • Familiarity with GIS and network design tools (e.g., Vetro or similar platforms)
  • Strong understanding of fiber network architecture and construction methods
  • Experience supporting commercial fiber deployments or new development builds
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders, including building relationships with external stakeholders

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

BENEFITS: What do we bring to our employees?

  • Medical Plans: Various options, including high-deductible plans with lower premiums. Preventive care is covered at 100%, and you have access to a wide network of providers.
  • 401(k) Plan: Includes a company match to help you save for retirement.
