McCall-Thomas Engineering Company, Inc. is seeking a full-time Fiber Construction Underground Foreman.

Location: Multiple locations with travel. Orangeburg, SC is the main office.

Fiber Construction Underground Foreman

Responsible for supervising and coordinating underground fiber optic construction activities, including conduit installation, directional boring, trenching, cable placement, and restoration. Oversees field crews, subcontractors, equipment operation, and daily production to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company standards and utility requirements. Reviews construction plans, conducts site inspections, maintains quality control, manages material usage, and ensures adherence to OSHA safety regulations. Serves as the primary field liaison between project management and crew members while maintaining accurate daily reports and documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise underground fiber construction crews and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate directional boring, trenching, plowing, and conduit installation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards.
  • Read and interpret utility maps, construction drawings, and fiber network designs.
  • Manage daily schedules, workforce assignments, and project resources.
  • Monitor productivity, quality, and budget performance.
  • Coordinate utility locates and ensure protection of existing underground facilities.
  • Conduct safety meetings and field inspections.
  • Maintain project documentation, reports, and as-built records.
  • Troubleshoot field issues and communicate progress to project management.

What Will You Need:
  • Strong technical knowledge of fiber optics
  • Project management experience
  • Prior experience in fiber design, construction, inspection, splicing, testing and troubleshooting
  • HS diploma or GED
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with clean driving record
  • CDL class A
  • Eligibility to work in the US without any form of sponsorship requirement
  • Willingness to travel as needed in the Southeast
