Job description

Job Summary:

The Fiber Optic Technician will have a strong understanding of fiber optic technology and be capable of installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber optic systems. The Fiber Optic Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Construct and install underground and aerial fiber optic networks for clients.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic network issues, including fiber breaks, signal degradation, and connectivity problems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on fiber optic systems to preemptively identify and address potential issues.
  • Document all fiber optic network installations, modifications, and repairs accurately and thoroughly.
  • Collaborate with engineering and network operations teams to implement fiber optic network upgrades and expansions.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working with fiber optic equipment and installations.
  • Keep abreast of advancements in fiber optic technology and recommend improvements to enhance network performance and reliability.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to other team members and departments as needed.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or degrees in relevant fields preferred.
  • Proven experience working as a Fiber Optic Technician or in a related role.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic network architecture, components, and protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic tools and equipment, including all equipment needed for construction/installation.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various work sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification from organizations such as the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with telecommunications or internet service providers.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to fiber optic installations and maintenance.

Work Environment:

  • This role is situated within an outdoor environment and regularly will be conducted in various weather conditions.
  • While executing job responsibilities, the employee will regularly engage in verbal communication. Additionally, physical demands include standing, walking, manual dexterity tasks, and reaching.
    • Occasional physical activities may include sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The position involves frequent lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 50 pounds and working from heights.
    • This is a full-time position with working hours scheduled during various hours.

    While executing job responsibilities, the employee may be required to engage in occasional standing, walking, sitting, manual manipulation of objects, tools, or controls, reaching, climbing stairs, and verbal communication. Additionally, the employee may occasionally need to lift or move office products and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

    • Daily travel within a limited area is expected for this position.
