Job description

Fiber Optic & Low Voltage Technician / Splicer

We are seeking an experienced Fiber Optic & Low Voltage Technician / Splicer to join our growing team. This role is responsible for installing, terminating, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber-optic and structured cabling systems in commercial and industrial environments.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with both single-mode and multimode fiber, understands structured cabling standards, and can complete installations safely, accurately, and efficiently.

What You’ll Do

  • Install, terminate, splice, test, and troubleshoot single-mode and multimode fiber-optic cabling
  • Perform fusion and mechanical fiber splicing
  • Prepare fiber cables, enclosures, splice trays, patch panels, and distribution equipment
  • Install structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber-optic cabling
  • Pull, route, dress, label, and secure cable according to project specifications and industry standards
  • Install cable pathways, racks, cabinets, patch panels, J-hooks, ladder racks, and related low-voltage infrastructure
  • Use OTDRs, optical power meters, visual fault locators, and other testing equipment to verify fiber performance
  • Terminate and test copper data cabling using approved tools and testing procedures
  • Diagnose connectivity issues, damaged fiber, signal loss, and other network-cabling problems
  • Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, cable schedules, diagrams, and project specifications
  • Maintain accurate documentation of cable routes, test results, splice records, and completed work
  • Coordinate with project managers, customers, and other technicians to complete projects on schedule
  • Follow all company, OSHA, site-specific, and industry safety requirements
  • Maintain tools, testing equipment, vehicles, and materials in a professional manner

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Fiber Optic Technician, Fiber Splicer, Low Voltage Technician, or Structured Cabling Technician
  • Experience working with both single-mode and multimode fiber
  • Proficiency in fiber preparation, termination, fusion splicing, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Experience installing and terminating structured cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A
  • Ability to operate fiber testing equipment, including OTDRs and optical power meters
  • Knowledge of low-voltage cabling standards, labeling practices, and installation requirements
  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a field installation team
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to travel to project locations as needed
  • Ability to pass any required background check or drug screening

Preferred Qualifications

  • BICSI, FOA, CFOT, or manufacturer-specific fiber certification
  • Experience with data centers, telecommunications facilities, commercial buildings, or industrial sites
  • Experience installing network racks, cabinets, grounding systems, and cable-management equipment
  • Familiarity with firestopping and applicable NEC, TIA/EIA, and BICSI standards
  • Experience operating scissor lifts, boom lifts, or other aerial equipment
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated platforms
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crawl, stand, and work overhead for extended periods
  • Ability to work in ceilings, telecommunications rooms, construction areas, and other job-site environments
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
