Familiarity with MDU (Multi-Dwelling Unit) design and ISP (Inside Plant) is also beneficial, as you'll occasionally support these areas.
Typical Responsibilities
  • Create comprehensive OSP fiber designs with clear constructible routes for aerial, micro-trenching, boring, and other installation types.
  • Produce detailed design packages, including Fiber Construction Drawings (FCDs), Bill of Materials (BOM), Scope of Work (SOW), and Notice-to-Proceed (NTP) packages.
  • Use GIS and fiber design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Microstation, Arc, Esri, 3-GIS, QGIS, Arc, Vetro, Visio, or others to produce and update network designs.
  • Develop and maintain accurate splice matrices to support fiber connectivity requirements.
  • Draft permits for aerial and UG utility placement and manage ROW/easement requirements with local municipalities.
  • Ensure design quality and troubleshoot design challenges through proactive problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to finalize as-built documentation and ensure adherence to company and industry standards.
  • Support efficient workflows by identifying design process improvements to enhance productivity and quality.

  • Proficiency in creating splice matrices, fiber connectivity plans, and understanding OSP configurations.
  • Experience with permitting processes and ROW/easement requirements for OSP construction.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge of OSP architectures, fiber splicing techniques, and overall fiber network design.
  • Experience in creating Bills of Materials (BOM) and performing material research for different OSP architectures.
  • Familiarity with ISP/MDU design and the ability to apply ISP knowledge when needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Maps) for documentation and collaboration.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and time management skills.
