Job description

Position Summary

Velvet Sips is seeking an energetic, customer-focused Assistant Manager / Barista to help lead daily operations of our mobile coffee trailer. This role combines beverage preparation, customer service, inventory management, and event leadership. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys engaging with customers, and can confidently manage operations when ownership is not onsite.

Key Responsibilities

Barista Duties

  • Prepare coffee, espresso-based beverages, matcha, teas, lemonades, dirty sodas, and specialty drinks according to recipes.
  • Maintain beverage quality, consistency, and presentation standards.
  • Operate espresso machine, grinders, and other beverage equipment safely.
  • Ensure all food and beverage items are prepared and served according to health department standards.

Assistant Manager Duties

  • Open and close the trailer independently.
  • Lead daily operations during events and pop-ups.
  • Supervise and support team members during shifts.
  • Monitor inventory and communicate restocking needs.
  • Assist with ordering supplies and maintaining par levels.
  • Handle customer concerns professionally and resolve issues.
  • Ensure cash handling and POS procedures are followed accurately.
  • Complete daily sales and inventory reports.

Customer Service

  • Deliver exceptional hospitality and create a memorable customer experience.
  • Educate customers on menu offerings and make recommendations.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times.

Operational Support

  • Set up and break down event locations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of trailer and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Assist with social media content creation during events when needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous coffee shop, café, food truck, or restaurant experience preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependable transportation and ability to travel to event locations.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Barista experience with espresso equipment.
  • Experience using Square or other POS systems.
  • Inventory management experience.
  • Mobile food or event experience.
  • ServSafe Manager Certification

Compensation

  • $16.00–$20.00 per hour (based on experience)
  • Opportunity for advancement as Velvet Sips continues to grow

Schedule

  • Primarily evenings, weekends, festivals, markets, and special events.
  • Flexible schedule with advance event notice.
  • Typical shifts range from 4–10 hours.
