The Infusion Nurse at Clements Ferry will report to the Unit Manager. Under general supervision, the Infusion Nurse provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at a competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.

Job Description

  • Coordinates care for infusion patients. Functions as a liaison between registration staff and clinical staff to facilitate the efficient flow of patients throughout the system. Confers with physicians regarding need, urgency, and appropriateness of infusion and clinic visits, ancillaries if needed. Assesses and reviews physician orders to assist with scheduling patients in a timely fashion. 

  • Manages comprehensive nursing care for patients whose needs range from uncomplicated to complex and rapidly changing. (Assesses subtle changes in patient status; anticipates problems before they occur and implement measures to minimize risk) Organizes and prioritizes nursing care activities considering the needs of the patients and other staff members. (Initiates/facilities/collaborates with all members of the interdisciplinary team to improve care delivered to the patients to ensuring that appropriate referrals are made and completed).

  • Coordinates and manages care by applying analytical reasoning, reflection, rational problem solving skills, using evidence based information and clinical judgment.

  • Functions as a patient/family advocate. Collaborates with physicians to monitor, evaluate and trend patient responses to treatments during duration of status as a patient.

  • Work with support staff to maximize efficiency in infusion scheduling. Requires familiarity with both IDX and EMR. Document all patient care activities in the electronic medical record to include disposition of patient telephone calls, medication list, etc. Generates ancillary requests in practice partner and updates medicines as needed in EMR (electronic medical record).

  • Participates in performance improvement /research activities designed to improve patient care, and/or organizational processes.

Additional Job Description

Required Minimum Training and Education: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or Nursing License Compact.  Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Minimum of one year of nursing experience required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current South Carolina RN License or multi-state Nursing License Compact and BLS required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.  Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors.  Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs.   Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
