Fence Building information

What does a fence builder do?

A fence builder is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing fences around properties such as homes, businesses, and farms. Their work involves measuring and marking locations for posts, digging post holes, mixing and pouring concrete, and assembling materials like wood, metal, or vinyl into fences. Fence builders ensure that fences are sturdy, level, and meet the specifications required by the client or local regulations. They may also advise clients on the best type of fencing material for their needs and provide maintenance services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fence builder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fence Builder, you need proficiency in measuring, cutting, and assembling fencing materials, along with a solid understanding of construction practices and safety regulations. Familiarity with power tools, post hole diggers, and sometimes certifications in equipment operation are typically required. Attention to detail, physical stamina, teamwork, and effective communication are essential soft skills for this role. These skills ensure fences are built safely, accurately, and efficiently, meeting client expectations and industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced by fence builders on job sites, and how can they be managed?

Fence builders often encounter challenges such as dealing with uneven terrain, unpredictable weather conditions, and hidden underground utilities. Managing these requires careful site assessment and planning, using the right tools and equipment, and coordinating with property owners or supervisors to address any obstacles early in the project. Additionally, strong teamwork and clear communication are essential, especially when working with other contractors or following specific client requirements.

Job description

Are you tired of door-knocking and cold-calling? At Skippers Construction LLC, we’ve done the hard work for you. As an authorized Lowe’s Installer, we are experiencing explosive growth and have a massive influx of pre-qualified leads waiting for your expertise.

We provide the appointments; you provide the solutions.

Why Skippers Construction?

  • Warm Leads Provided: No more prospecting. You will be running pre-set estimate appointments for deck, fence, porch, and patio projects.
  • Aggressive Earning Potential: High commission structures designed for top-tier closers.
  • Growth Opportunity: We just added 24 new Lowe's stores to our portfolio. We are building a team of future leaders.
  • Training & Licensing Support: Don’t have your Maryland Home Improvement License yet? We will help you get it.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct professional in-home consultations, take measurements, and provide accurate estimates.
  • Use your construction knowledge to design the perfect outdoor living space for homeowners.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: 1+ years in exterior residential construction sales (decks, fences, or roofing preferred).
  • Tech Savvy: You must be proficient with a computer and Microsoft Word. You should be comfortable saving, editing, and managing digital documents (this is a deal breaker!).
  • Communication: Ability to build rapport quickly and explain technical project details to non-technical homeowners.
  • Mobility: A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle for local travel.
  • Licensing: Ability to obtain a Maryland Home Improvement Sales License.

Requirements:

  • Must pass a background check (required by Lowe’s).
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule.
