Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The role of the Feed Truck Driver at Rose Acre Farms will function as the delivery person for all Rose Acre feed products to the farm level. Although his primary duty will be to make delivery runs, he or she may be required to load the delivery truck and fill out necessary paperwork in the absence of the feed mill manager. In addition, his or her duties shall remain flexible to accommodate the needs of the Rose Acre Feed mill operation. For instance, it may be required of the driver to transport feed to locations that are not in his/her normal day-to-day delivery route.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for making delivery runs to Rose Acre locations at the discretion of the feed mill manager where the driver is based.
  • Responsible for delivering the feed in a timely and safe manner to the Rose Acre location, and the driver is also responsible for filling out the 'Feed Truck Drivers Weight Form' as he or she delivers the feed and turning it into the feed mill manager daily.
  • Responsible for assisting the feed mill manager should problems arise in the feed mill, such as a breakdown. In such circumstances, it is necessary that the feed truck driver assist the manager in getting the mill running again so that deliveries can be made.
  • Responsible for checking feed bin inventory amounts at the farm if requested by the feed mill manager
  • Responsible for monitoring the feed bin lids when they are at the farm delivering feed to make sure that they are closing properly and are in good working order. If they are not, the driver must report it to the house laborer, farm manager, feed mill manager, or environmental services manager.
  • Responsible for maintaining the feed truck in good working order (general maintenance, checking oil and other fluid levels, tire pressure, etc.) Should help with major repairs and other maintenance measures that need to be completed, and the driver must report them to the environmental services manager or the RA shop.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Previous knowledge or experience in feed mill or agricultural operations is highly desired.
  • Must possess a valid CDL license to be able to transport feed to the various Rose Acre locations.
  • Must be highly organized and be able to work without continuous direct supervision on the job.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all feed mill manager and house laborers whom the driver comes in contact with to ensure feed is delivered on time.
  • Ability to treat co-workers with respect and courtesy.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule - working late if feed needs delivered, and possible working occasional weekends and holidays to see that the feed is delivered.
  • Possess good decision making skills.
  • Must maintain a strong sense of safety in dealing with Rose Acre equipment both on and off Rose Acre property.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment, indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas each varying in temperature, and other environment specific atmospheres.
  • Must be willing and able to work past the scheduled leave time to complete the job, if needed.
  • Must possess the ability to work in an open office setting.
  • Must maintain professionalism with coworkers.
