Job Description: Assistant Manager at Mark’s Feed Store

Position Title: Assistant Manager
Reports To: General Manager

Position Overview:

The Assistant Manager at Mark's Feed Store supports the General Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the restaurant. This position involves managing the front and back-of-house activities, ensuring high standards of customer service, food quality, and operational efficiency. The Assistant Manager is responsible for leading the team, assisting with staffing, training, inventory management, and addressing customer concerns. This role is crucial in helping maintain a positive work environment and ensuring the smooth operation of the restaurant.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership & Team Support:

    • Assist in leading and motivating the restaurant team to achieve performance goals, maintain high service standards, and foster a positive work environment.

    • Support the hiring, training, and development of restaurant staff, ensuring they understand and adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

    • Monitor and evaluate employee performance, provide feedback, and assist with coaching or corrective actions as needed.

    • Step in to manage shifts, directing the team and providing hands-on leadership on a daily basis.

  2. Operational Excellence:

    • Oversee day-to-day operations of the restaurant, ensuring smooth and efficient service delivery during busy and slow periods.

    • Monitor food quality, consistency, and portion control to ensure all dishes meet Mark's Feed Store standards.

    • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the restaurant, including kitchen, dining areas, restrooms, and exterior.

    • Ensure all restaurant equipment is in good working order and assist with basic maintenance tasks as needed.

  3. Customer Service & Guest Satisfaction:

    • Ensure exceptional customer service is provided at all times, addressing any guest concerns or complaints in a prompt and professional manner.

    • Encourage a customer-focused environment by leading by example and teaching the team how to anticipate and fulfill customer needs.

    • Monitor guest feedback through surveys, reviews, and direct interactions, making improvements to the guest experience when necessary.

  4. Financial Management:

    • Assist in managing restaurant budgets, including labor costs, food costs, and other operational expenses, to meet profitability goals.

    • Help with inventory control, ordering, and stock rotation to minimize waste and ensure product availability.

    • Monitor and manage the cash handling processes, ensuring accuracy in financial transactions and deposits.

  5. Training & Development:

    • Assist with the training and development of new employees, ensuring they are familiar with all policies, procedures, and operational standards.

    • Provide on-the-job training for team members in areas such as food preparation, customer service, and safety protocols.

    • Help organize and execute ongoing training sessions to improve team performance and product knowledge.

  6. Health, Safety & Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations, conducting regular inspections of the restaurant to ensure cleanliness and safety standards are met.

    • Support the General Manager in maintaining workplace safety by ensuring that all employees adhere to safety guidelines.

    • Respond to any safety concerns or emergencies in a timely manner, escalating issues to the General Manager as necessary.

  7. Problem-Solving & Decision Making:

    • Address operational challenges, staffing issues, or customer complaints in a calm and professional manner.

    • Take quick and effective action to resolve issues, whether related to service delays, food quality, or team dynamics.

    • Make decisions during shifts that keep the restaurant running smoothly, including handling employee performance issues or customer dissatisfaction.

  8. Administrative Support:

    • Assist with administrative duties such as employee scheduling, payroll management, and reporting.

    • Help ensure all daily reports, including sales, inventory, and safety audits, are completed accurately and submitted on time.

    • Support the General Manager in completing daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience in a supervisory or management role within the restaurant industry, preferably in a fast-casual or full-service environment.

  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide staff to meet company goals.

  • Customer Service: A passion for customer service and a dedication to creating positive guest experiences.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff, guests, and management.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong decision-making skills and the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.

  • Financial Acumen: Basic understanding of financials, including budgeting, labor cost management, and inventory control.

  • Organization: Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Adaptability: Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations and adjust to changing business needs.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (4-8+ hours) with periodic breaks.

  • Perform repetitive motions, including frequent use of hands and arms for tasks such as chopping, stirring, carrying, and operating equipment.

  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, stretching, twisting, and reaching above eye level.

  • Capability to walk up and down stairs and use a step ladder as needed.

  • Occasional sitting, talking, and active listening as required by the role.
