Job Summary
Greets and assists visitors in person or over the telephone. Provides general office support for the Philosophy and History Departments.
Duties will include:
  • Front desk reception - meet and greet visitors and answer department phones.
  • Mail - pick up from lobby and deliver to department mailboxes.
  • Bulletin boards - Post various notices on bulletin boards and remove outdated ones.
  • Kitchen - Organize managinzes on tables. Discard outdated publications.
  • Copier - Make copies and scans for faculty. Notify staff when paper needs to be ordered. When paper is delivered, open boxes and stack reams in mail room cabinets. Learn functions of SHARP copier, such as double-sided copying and scanning, printing from a flash drive, sorting and stapling, and how to clear paper jams.
  • Newsletters - Create and send monthly departmental newsletters in collaboration with program coordinators.
  • Social media - Post and share to department social media channels.

Responsibilities
1. Receives, greets and directs visitors to appropriate person or office.
2. Answers telephones, providing assistance and directing customers to the correct person or office.
3. Processes and distributes mail.
4. Creates and maintains files.
5. Schedules appointments and arranges for meetings.
6. Answers questions about the organization and associated activities.
7. Assists with word processing, data entry and internet searches.
8. Maintains office equipment; arranges for service calls as needed.
9. Creates department newsletters.
10. Maintains Philosophy and History department social media outlets.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. One year full-time customer service experience or equivalency, demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Work hours can be negotiated to accommodate department needs as well as student's classes.
