Job description

Job Purpose or Scope:

Bus Drivers are responsible for the safe and timely operation of a public transit bus. Bus Drivers drive specific routes according to a set time schedule, perform bus inspections, operate wheelchair lifts, ensure bikes are properly secured on the bike racks, make public address announcements, answer questions regarding route and time schedules in a pleasant, courteous and helpful attitude, monitor and report passenger movements. Bus Driver must exercise prudent judgment during onboard vehicle operations and failures.


Minimum Education & Certifications Required:

Prefer high school diploma or GED equivalent

A current Commercial Driver's License class "B" license with Passenger Endorsement (P) and Air Brakes endorsement. All required driver training and licensing to be completed within the first 90 days of employment. Current medical certification by approved medical professional as required by the USDOT.


Experience & Skills Required:

Must be fluent in the English language (speak, read, write).

Not required but a plus to be fluent in Spanish language.

Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.

Basic math skills.

Requires sitting for long periods while operating bus.

Ability to operate vehicle equipment.

Effectively read a map or GPS.

Must assist passengers in wheelchairs by securing wheelchair while on bus.

Provide passengers with general information of routes and schedules.

Attention to detail is essential.

Must have basic understanding of and sensitivity to the special service needs.
