Job description

General Dynamics NASSCO is a proud member of the General Dynamics Marine Systems business unit. In addition to ship construction, our capabilities include advanced ship repair, conversion, and maintenance for both commercial and national defense assets. We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Lagging department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for one Insulator - J2 to work 1st shift.

Shift : 6:00 AM to 2:45 PM

Security Clearance: No Clearance

GUIDELINES FOR INSULATION MECHANIC

JOURNEYPERSON 4 (INSULATION MECHANIC)

  • Must meet all Journeyman 3 Insulation Mechanical requirements.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Insulation drawings, layout, and install.
  • Must be able to design and fabricate lagging pads.
  • Must be able to install lagging pads on pipe flanges, valves, ventilation systems, and engine exhaust systems.
  • Must be able fabricate miters out of calcium silicate.
  • Must be able to install calcium silicate and fabricated miters on properly.

JOURNEYPERSON 3 (INSULATION MECHANIC)

  • Must meet all Journeyman 2 Insulation Mechanical requirements.
  • Assist with close supervision in reading and interpreting Insulation drawings.
  • Assist Journeyman 4 mechanic in designing and fabricating lagging pads.
  • Must be able to install lagging pads on pipe flanges, valves, ventilation systems ,and engine exhaust systems.
  • Assist Journeyman 4 mechanic in designing and fabricating miters out of calcium silicate.
  • Must know standard items (009-11, 009-23, 009-10)
  • Must be able to install calcium silicate different size steam systems properly.
  • Must be able to apply finishing cement on calcium silicate seams.

JOURNEYPERSON 2 (INSULATION MECHANIC)

  • Must meet all Journeyman 1 Insulation Mechanical requirements.
  • Must be able to layout overhead and bulkheads structures using 1” inch and 2” inch waffle back studs properly.
  • Must be able to install sheet rubber, tube rubber, and fiber glass pipe covering on steam, and chill water systems.
  • Assist Journeyman mechanics 3 or 4 on installing calcium silicate steam systems properly.
  • Assist Journeyman mechanics 3 or 4 on applying finishing cement on calcium silicate.
  • Must have the knowledge of the material to reinstall on the job.
  • Assist Journeyman mechanics 3 or 4 on installing pads on pipe flanges, valves, ventilation systems, and engine exhaust systems.
